Wow, not much room in the back of DII's I have never had a look at one .....what about all the other gear..Fuel, water how much you taking on the Desert trip....
As for Coopers ST's I have them and just came back from a 1900km round trip, 200km across shale and didnt get 1 puncture...even though I used to carry 2 spares... great tyre..I recommend them ....

12 days to Alice from Sydney, now lets see that's one pair of jeans, one shirt, three pairs of socks, three jocks (inside, outside, back & front), beanie gloves & trakkie. Sleeping bag with liner.

Plus lots of deodorant. And beer.

Seriously... there's only two of us plus there's that big box on the roof (which I hope is waterproof/ dustproof).

    2 x 20 litre jerrys of water.

We're on the black stuff until Boulia then the Plenty Highway. Should be OK for fuel. Longest run is Tobermorey to Gem Tree which is 425 km. Tis a TD5 not a V8, after all.

But you're right it's damn tight in a Disco. But we're trying hard not to be daytrippers, to get out & use it for more than soccer games and towing stuff to the tip.

I'd love to have the room of a DII - a D1 is even smaller in the back.

However with only two people, with a good design storage system like this ( mine is similar but not as neat ) "scientific packing", removing the back seats entirely and , if necessary using the roof rack for tents tarps etc, we find there is plenty of room for everything, inlcuding any necessary safety or emergency gear, on extended Trips.

how much "stuff" do two people really need anyway ?

One other thing, there's 7 other vehicles in the trip so it's not like we need to be 100% self sufficient (although in a pinch we will be, have all the kit but leave some of the heavy duty stuff behind).

One other DII and a D3... all the others are Japanese.

Chenz did this on our trip last year...was a plurry good idea and we wish we'd thought of it
The foam was a great idea and saved a lot of rubs as well as cut down on the rattles especially on dunes where the grey nomads who don't like letting down tyre pressures (you then have to blow them up again you see) leave nice steps which shake the **** out of everything. I had Coopers ATs and reckon they are the bees knees.

Another tip is those rubber mats with the holes in them which join together. Had them on the racks and saved rubs and rattles on the table and other stuff we carried on top. Also good to use when standing in the desert having a tub.

Hope you have a great trip - wish I was going.
