Some History.

Let us start by dispelling the belief still held by a few people that Jaguar just adapted a Ford designed V8 to create their new power unit. The truth is actually the reverse. Jaguar designed the engine in its entirety, it is manufactured in the UK, and a simplified variant is shipped over to the US where Lincoln install it in their LS model!

Jaguar's design team started with a clean sheet of paper for this new V8 engine. Nothing carried over from previous engines and the aim clearly was to produce a class leading power unit with few compromises. In most respects they achieved success and were able to devise remedies for the inevitable weaknesses that emerged with time.

And the Aston Martin V8 is based loosely on Jaguar's AJ-V8 engine, this engine is unique to Aston Martin and features race-style dry-sump lubrication, which enables it to be mounted low in the chassis for an improved center of gravity. The cylinder block and heads, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, camshafts, inlet and exhaust manifolds, lubrication system, and engine management are all unique to Aston Martin. The V8 engine is assembled by hand at the AM facility in Cologne, Germany, which also builds the V12 engine for the DB9 and Vanquish.

Its currently my favourite motor so i know a little about it

I would refuse to buy any Chinese built Land Rovers.

I stand corrected re Jag/Ford modular. I must have added 2and 2 and got 5.
The engine families are different.

And reading that , it seems the Jag V8 is not used in Mercury.

Usually the problem is that related divisions will give friendly prices for shared components, often at cost or cost plus. Depends where the company wants to take the profit.
When there is no relationship the seller wants full cop. Probably a major reason that land Rover switched from BMW engines as soon as they could.

And TDV6 and 8 are apparently very expensive engines,why else such a premium in the market for DiscoTDV6 over petrol V6. It is in Land Rovers interest to keep the price as low as possible, but there is an enormous difference, and the sales volumes are a disaster in Australia at least.

I vote for that !!!!

Especially the supercharged one which has a nice flat power band, 525Nm of torque and 276kW

I received a letter yesterday from both of the Adelaide Land Rover dealers
Wailkerville and Black Forest. Apparently after 26 years of trading they have been told that they are no longer dealers anymore PAG? Have sold then down the river.

I find it really sad that in Australia all Land Rover are interested in is new Disco and Range Rover owners for mainly city driving.

Most of the country dealers have long gone, no wonder Land Cruisers rule the roost up here in Outback SA.
