Thread: Anyone a shooter ?

I mainly shoot military rifles 8x57 303 6.5x55 plus muzzleloaders.I've won alot of medals with blackpowder rifles at state and national level and there my favourite out of the lot. Pat

Im going on how it was about 3 years ago when we got our last permit but it is still valid I believe, must check one day.

It is illegal to shoot roo's on public land unless contracted by the government but shooting them on private land with permission from the owner is ok as far as I know.

Reason I gave it away when the new laws came into effect in NSW was that if you wanted to hunt on Privare land you had to have "written" permission from the Landholder, it was just too much of a hassle, Johnny's Buy-Back certainly hasn't stopped the Crims getting guns, but the new laws have spoilt it. I was shooting , legally on a property near Cobar NSW when a Helicopter flew overhead, within an hour the Cops had bailed us up and luckily all our licenses and Permission was in order, cause they weren't in the mood for apologies or excuses, regards Frank.

Shooting done right is quite often more humane. Just annoys me people who maim or wound and leave. Most who are critical need to go to an abbatoir and have a look.

I don't regard myself as a shooter - but I have a .22 and a 25/20 - just tools like the wire strainers or the crowbar or the tractor.

Last thing I shot was a couple of years ago my next door neighbour got a pig on my place with his Hilux - next day I went to check on it and found one of his mates dining on him, so I went back home and came back with a gun - he let me drive within about 50m but decided to leave when I opened the window, but left his run a bit late.

After that the kid on the other side shot and trapped about 70 of them, and I haven't seen one (or traces of) since.

As far as I am aware, you can get a cull permit for roos, but they have to be shot by a professional. But rabbits, pigs, foxes, dogs etc are fair game. Bloke next door with the Hilux a few years ago got two dogs belonging to another neighbour - after they got seven sheep!

Whats worse; shooting clean or placing a live fish in a bucket to die a slow death..... you never hear anyone bitch about that.

Don't have a problem about having to get written permission and don't see a need for semi autos or military style rifles. Learn to shoot and you should only need the one shot. If you need more - then try the lever gun as its bloody quick.

My neighbour called the police himself, and they went and interviewed the owners, but nothing came of it. I advised him he should have loaded up the dead sheep and the dead dogs and taken them to the dogs owners and dumped them on the front verandah - together with an invoice for the sheep, the cartridges, the transport and his time!

Just to put it in perspective, about a year or so earlier, one of the dogs turned up at my place- took half a day to find who owned it, and return it. I told the owner that they were lucky it turned up at our place, as most of the others round here would shoot first if a stray dog turned up (especially a big one, which it was, some sort of mastiff). They said it did not have a collar so it would not get hung up going through a fence!

Does anyone own (or owned) a Browning lever action - in either .308 or 30/06. I would be interested in your opinion of this rifle.
