Look What I Pick Up Next Weekend

Hi all - look what I bought today - get it next weekend. A unmolested series 1 88" with original 2 litre engine. Mechanicals except for brakes are all OK, firewall is good, a couple of repairable holes in the chassis , it drives under its own power. Some wheel cylinders, recon master cylinder and some welding in the rear X member and we will back on the road.

Intending to go to the 60th in Cooma next year and I know what you lot would say if I turned up in my Freelander. Now I can go in a traditional landie - not that the Freelander is not a proper landrover.

I want to put it on Historic Plates so does anyone know of a "proper" landrover club in the ACT - prefer a single brand club - if not I guess I could join a general Classic Car Club but I don't think there are any around.

    Very nice Garry

one of the clubs putting on Cooma is the Land Rover club of the ACT

    http://www.landrover60.com.au/store/default.pl

Not sure of their contact details... someone here will know I'm sure.

{Edit}... just found the details here http://www.lrfaq.org/FAQ.5.clubs.oceania.html

lol... just noticed details for LROCV are 12 years out of date... so the above link may not be a huge help...

    Thanks Missus N

It is a 57 too - Leon's Brother - not quite as nice as Leon but it does look all original - I will need to have a real good close look next weekend to see exactly what is what. Brakes all round, tighten the steering box, a couple of tie rod ends and off course the electrics. The gearbox cross member is bashed in and rust in the rear chassis but nothing to worry about at this stage.

So who can you suggest as the best (cheapest) supplier of series 1 bits in Australia? I know where to get them in the UK but not here?

I will be hanging out with the series 1s at Cooma but then I might also get a mate to drive the Freelander too - just too spite you nasty Freelander haters

Ph (03) 98900509 or email sales@landrover.com.au and get a catalogue (it costs). They sell all sorts of stuff and we get some stuff from them eg we just bought the head gasket kit for our 2A from them.

Depends what you are after. Sometimes its wise to ask around and keep your eyes open
Thanks - I used to buy a lot of stuff from them 25 years ago when I had my first series 1 and when I then lived in East Sale. I didn't appreciate they were still around.

There is the old fleabay - I have noticed lots of stuff on there - one of the first things I will want after the necessities are done is a hard top - it is too cold down here.

    Cheers

That looks like a fantastic project, it looks to be extremely straight & near complete.
I'm absolutely bright neon sickly green with envy.
    Best of luck with it.
