When we did it earlier in the year there were no signs after the initial ones until the final "one way-Beach" sign,,,
Has anybody been down the Kings Bore track/loop recently?
I tried at xmas, I'm pretty sure I was on the right tracks (but could be wrong as haven't done it in many years) however there were trees down everywhere and the tracks looked like they hadn't been used in many weeks. I pushed on for a while but eventually turned back after massaging a door on one of the logs.
Heading up this weekend with friends and I am frankly bored of the main hwy up the beach.
When we did it earlier in the year there were no signs after the initial ones until the final "one way-Beach" sign,,,

Hi Dan, Sounds like you did what I did when I first tried that track. I will scan a map and email it to you tomorrow? Edit - can't find it, but get one from the rangers office at Rainbow Beach - you have to start at that end anyhow.
The trick is to start at the Rainbow Beach Rd end and when you drive "in" for about 200 metres, you come to the sign and the road forks straight ahead or right. Take the far right hand track downhill grade (it is a bit sandy at first) but it definitely does not get skinny. A nice drive through some nice coastal wallum and it joins with the other "loop" some 1000 metres from the beach (signposted "one-way") where it begins the "track of non-return" down to the beach. I always stop at the top of the last 100m of track to the beach to check the condition. The cowboys use it as a hill climb (against the "one way" signposts) and can rut the track. I one needed to fill-in the tracks with a shovel in one point to stop bottoming out going down a 20% downhill grade!. Last time I used it is was a piece of cake.
Check out the "creek crossing" at the beach end (if there is one) as I hit it a bit hard one day and bashed the plastic bumper on the opposite bank. Don't let me put you off - it is a great detour not used by many and well worth it! -Let me know how you go.- Matti
Thanks for the replys.
I'm scouring google-maps now
Attached is the std map from NPWS.
And Matti you're not putting me off mate, you're making me more determined to find my way this time![]()
I was only watching the Kedron Caravan guys doing that track on thier new video today, they dragged a 17"6 Top Ender van through and the track was a bit rough but they did it ok
I have fond memories of a trip in a RR along the Cooloola Way one time when it was under water,,
snatched a Toyota bus out of a hole deep enough to hide all the wheels,, should have seen the nice uniformed driver after he had to submerge to attach the snatch,![]()
