Thread: Defender pricing.

It was me asking where all the cheap Defenders where - based in Red Books!!!

I did get one - over $5k more than the Red Books price.

Now the next issue with the Insurance company - they will only insure a market value - currently $22,000 for a 2002 D110 Xtreme UNLESS I can get a valuer to agree with my proposed value of $30,000.

So where can I get this valuation?

I don't know how Redbook generate their private sale values, but if they get their data from the motor registries then the values would be effected by people quoting a lower sale price on the Notice of Disposal/Rego Transfer to reduce the stamp duty.

Just a thought.

I mentioned similar recently with regard to insurance. Red book quotes my 2000 TD5 defender as being $19k max end of spectrum. What a crock try and buy one under $25 in good nick, more like $30. My argument was not over sale price, but what I wanted to insure it for. With all the acc I think I should be able to insure it for $28-30k. I know if I write it off I will be challenging the insurance company to find one at the insured price of $22k with all accessories.

When I wrote off my Defender the assessor the company hired to check the value of the car pre-wreck said he looked at the ads round Australia and came back with the response that mine was worth what I said it was. Mind you that was $14000, for a 96 300tdi with dual batteries, bull bar, dual tanks etc. I wonder how much one of those Tdis would be worth now.

Mine having been economically written-off previously would probably be avoided by buyers and not worth as much. Not that I care, I'll be keeping it for at least another 5 years. To rig a new Defender out as well as the one I have now would be costing me on the way to $60000 (?) and you guys seem to be saying, if you have a good Tdi then stick with it.
