Thread: Food on the go...........

So where do people put cook their food in the engine bay? Im interested in try some spuds....that would be great on a cold day!

the right hand front side is good for slow cooking tinned stews and defrosting in a hurry, the back right in front of the brake booster is about right for medium heats things like spag bogs and pasta meals.

The heat shield of the exhaust manifold and the turbo charger is good for 2 pies, 4 of the 4n20 jumbo sausage rolls or a black and gold garlic bread. Cooking time is about an hour but all are usually still good after about 2 hours which is conveniently the reccomended break time when traveling long distances.

Remeber that the temperature of the heat shield will vary with ambient temperature and load on the vehicle so placing a small "blocker" in the form of a large potato up the front of the shield to help deflect air movement away from the food your cooking will help with a nice even toasting.

While your checking your evening meal its also a good oportunity to check the engine bay for anything going awry.


Ive also been led to believe that removing the jack from the engine bay box in a disco will leave you with an ideal place to reheat food and would suggest that it would probabley be about the same as a low heat oven, ideal for a simmering type dish or on a long enough drive cooking a pot roast.
