    Women........Gotta Love e'm

I get a phone call at work from the little lady.

"Hi sweetie...I can't start the car." (Disco 2)

    O-K. what's the problem?

"Every time I try to start, the alarm sounds. It's embarrassing. People are looking."

You are sitting in the car and it wont start?

    "Yes"

Where is the car? Outside a supermarket or under powerlines? (Oh no. Not the dreaded alarm fault)

"I'm in the shopping centre carpark".

O-K....Get out of the car and relock it.

    "I can't".

    Why????

    "I'm locked in."

Well, wind the window down and put the key in the lock.

"I can't do that either. Electric windows!"

    Ohhhhhhh.
How did you unlock the door?

    "With the unlock button".

    Then what?

"I sat there for a moment and locked the doors".

    How did you lock them?

"I pushed the lock symbol on the key".

Do you realize the car thinks you are trying to steal it?

    "But it's MY car"!

Land Rovers are clever. But they're not THAT clever.
Pushing the button superlocks the doors, sets the alarm, and kills the engine, among other things. Irrespective of you inside, or outside.

"I never had this problem with my old Nissan".

You never had the problem of anyone wanting to steal it either.
Anyway....Push the lock button, then the unlock button, and try again.

    "It starts!!!"

Next time, push the door lock switch on the panel to lock the doors.

"But I can't reach it with my seat belt on".

    Take your belt off then.

"If I do that, the car beeps at me!!!"

Ok dear. We will talk about it at home.

    The moral of the story................................
If you leave children in the car, have a window down and take your keys.

Please forgive me............I have sinned. I will chose my words more carefully.

I was trying to explain, (in a lighthearted way) that the Disco 2 alarm and engine immobiliser can be a tricky critter.

Yes, "leaving" kids in the car is not on.

However.........At home. Do you unlock your car, put the kid(s) in with the keys in the ignition.....or thrown on the seat?

There can be times when your loved ones are in the car without you.
If your alarm/immobiliser acts up, you will need your keys on you....not in the car.

The early D2s can and do malfunction under powerlines or outside the supermarket that is using a radio linked barcode scanner.

The purpose of the post was to warn the unwary.
