    Fair Trading...Any good?

As some of you would know I have been having a hard time with a carrier that damaged my 110.Seems no joy is going to come my way, so I have had to take further steps. As you may understand I don't want to say too much.

Therefore, has anyone dealt with fair trading NSW, are they any good, did you get a result via them.Has anyone had a similar thing happen, what did you do to get things done.

It's all new to me this, so any constructive advice would be good.I have this week submitted my complaint to fair trading nsw, sent of my letter of demand, and failing that will go further.

Sorry to hear its a no go OLR. Stick to your guns tho, coz I am sure they should be carrying insurance to cover that sort of thing.
Not necessarily, I work for a major multi national transport co that self insures i.e. no insurance although they usually do require their contractors to carry their own insurance. If it is a situation like this and they use a subbie then you may have to try to get restitution out of him.

I've gone to Fair Trading a few times and found that the threat of them was all that was needed. I hope it goes well.

I hope that's the case Steve. As far I am concerned the contract was made with the carrier , not a subbie, had no idea it was a subbie until I spoke to the carrier. The carrier took my money, the carrier is responsible. Cut and dry I would think.
See how we go in around 2 weeks.

    cheers

I went through Fair Trading a few years ago with a Chemist & Kodak over a couple of destroyed rolls of film. It went to mediation & worked out fairly well for me in the end.

I see a few results of our customers dealings with Fair Trading too, they usually come out on top (but I can't say who they are fighting against because they might be watching).

    OLR, Just a question?

If you're in QLD, is it a NSW issue? If it is a NSW issue, then NSW Fair Trading, in my experience, is/are excellent.

Been to them a few times over 'issues', with successful outcomes

Well the letter of demand must have worked. Just received phone call from carrier, they are going to fix the roof.Basically the red book price on an 85 110 is such crap it will be sorted outside of insurance, otherwise I would lose the truck as a write off.We will see how this goes in the coming weeks.

So do I NM...the guy I am dealing with seems a lot better then the last %$^head...the only problem I am going to have is the budget...this guy will only pay 1500-1600 any higher and he wants to write off...that must be his excess....so again getting the short stick..but I should be able to work with it...priced a secondhand roof from $880...pricey I think....then again it's a tight budget....so that leaves me around $700 to remove old roof, paint new one and frame, put back together....oh, and this does not take into account the running around I have to do...might have to do all the labour myself if get's too tight....so...still not a win in my books..the problem is the bull**** redbook price...85 3.9D 110 =$2500-4800...nowhere near real world...cheapest "good" repair quote was 2.5k ++ ..so doesn't leave much room.

word of advice ....take time off work and drive the bastard yourself......

******If anyone in SEQ has a good 110 roof available let me know******

    cheers
