    High Country in September

We are contemplating a visit to the MCG in September (Grand Final) regardless of who is playing, just to experience it.
Seeing as we are over there we are thinking of seeing some snow, probably park the camper in a caravan park or camping groung adjacent to some snow areas and spend a few days taking it all in.
Can anyone tell me what areas may be open? i.e. Mansfield, Licola, Dargo, Bright etc.?

Mostly the ski resorts and all the "low country" tracks

There is still a large amount of the H/C still closed due to the bushfires

Why not come over for the Melb Cup in Nov.....thats when they reopen

Have been there in November and February, it's just that we will go to the AFL Grand Final and the HC will be a secondary part of the trip

The snow might be fairly ordinary by September I would have thought.

Mind you it will be a good season, so who knows.

Gday RichardK, You will not find much to go 4wding on in sept as said before pretty much all tracks will be closed.

As far as the snow goes, it is going to be a bumper season from the looks of it so there will still be some snow about but how much (I dont own a crystal ball) I dont know but I would recomend dropping the camper at Mansfield in one of the 2 caravan parks, (both are very good) and go to either Mt Buller for down hill skiing or Sterling for X country as they are a bit more catered to the day visitor and new to snow visitor than Hotham or Falls etc.

All I can advise you other than that is to take Lots of money, as it will cost you a fortune for AFL grand final tickets (if you can get them), and if you want a pie then sell your house. It costs a small fortune to get onto the mountain and a larger fortune if you want to ski in ski hire, chain hire, suit hire, lift ticket and food etc. But it is like that because of the fickle nature of our winters and the fact that it costs a lot to run everything up there.

Good luck on the GF tickets and hope you enjoy the Mountains but if you want to do 4wding, come back in November and there wont be a shortage of people to take you out.
