    TDi - Selling the baby

Have signed up to trade in the TDi SE auto '98, 106,000km - looks and drives like new. Offered $14,500 with loads of extras. Has tinted windows, snorkel, long range tank, TJM bull bar (keeping the winch) Kaymar rear bar and carrier, 50mm OME springs and shocks, Polyairs, RTC damper, aux battery, Autron cruise control, aux auto trans cooler, front double cardan drive shaft, solid rear shaft, TJM flares, near new Cooper ST 245/75 on original alloys ....etc

Know she is worth much more but that's how the industry goes.
Will be selling sliders, diff and steering protectors, large intercooler, EGT etc in the near future.

Taking delivery of D3 on Monday so it's all about to start again.

I would have kept the D1, or at least past the bits around to all your good freinds on the forum .

You could have pretty much stripped the good bits off it and put it back to standard and still got that trade in on a D3 and still have to start again building the new car up.

Tip for everyone, anything you change on your truck that can be changed back before you sell it, keep it in the corner of the yard for that day as you can return it close to standard and recover some of your hard earned for the accesories that you are basically giving a car yard for nothing and they dont care as long as it looks neat and tidy is all they want.

They would prefer 4wd's that are not lifted and highly modified anyway so even if it costs a weekend of throwing spanners around with someone in the know and a slab of cans you can recover a fair bit by doing it.

I have worked for a few car yards and we used to pull accesories off, even canopies and tarps as well as bull bars, rear wheel carriers and roof racks so the sales men could offer them as extras to try and seal a sale unless the accesories are the only good thing on the car.

If they didnt then get sold with the car they came off they got sold through the trading post for beer money.

Thats how I know all this.

I am well and truly into the stripping of the easy parts, would have liked to take off more than I am but time is against me. It has all happened very quickly. Have been considering the change for a while but, believe it or not, was talked into it by the better half after experiencing her first drive around.

Back to removing the cargo barrier.

This even applies for private buyers. When I was selling my Disco more than one person asked if I still had the original fuel tank.

I had the long range tank fitted to the Defender at ARB and when I picked it up I asked where's the original tank I want to keep that. In the skip out the back was the answer - they were really surprised.
