Thread: V8i S1 Discovery - Ltrs/100kms POLL

My 99 Series 2 Auto has averaged 17.02 litres/100km over 43,465 km.

That includes a mix of city, highway, a small amount of moderate 4wd in the Brindabellas, and a few thousand km pulling a Jayco Penguin Outback at highway speeds and in the mountains.

It averaged 18.46 litres/100km pulling the camper over one 3,713 km trip at 100-110 km.

On pure highway it averaged 16.19 litres/100km.

I get about 13 bucks to 100klm with lpg and about twice the cost with petty

I cant believe in this day and age of LPG vapour injection anyone would still bother with petrol with crappy economy like that.

How do you guys afford to actually go off road and do your mates with diesel landies carry extra fuel for you or dont you go that far.

I know my 300TDI could use a heap more power but I couldnt fathum paying that much to go anywhere.

I did 784kms on 60l of fuel on the weekend, granted it was at around 80 to 90kmh in fog on the hwy and a bit around town but I dont check much with the economy as the trip meter only goes up to 999 before tripping over and I lose track with 135 ltrs undernieth.

Im not hanging it on anyone by saying this, Im just amazed that more people arnt taking advantage of the rebate and the new technologies available as I dont think our mortgage would cost as much as some of you guys weekly fuel bills at that rate.

By the way, our ZG Jeep only got about 22/100kms out of a 4l 6cyl in traffic, 90l per week if Mrs Mc drove it to work and that is why we bought her a carolla, what we save in fuel is paying for the loan.

My V8 Disco only has the standard tank but has no problem with range. There are a lot of petrol stations out there

I have always wanted a V8 and if I couldn't afford to have one now then I doubt I could later.

Problem with the $2000 LPG rebate is that the prices of installs amazingly went up by $1000. Still a $1000 saving but you (the taxpayer) are getting conned all the same.

I think that for peice of mind if I had a Tdi or Td5 Disco I would take whatever money I saved in fuel and put it into a rebuild account. The cost of diesel repairs scares me. Another account for an auto transmission.

If I had a diesel Landy it would have to be the Isuzu 3.9

Obviously, you dont actually use your landy off road all that often as I havnt see many petrol stations in the middle of the bush when people get stuck in mud and it takes longer and uses more fuel to get out than what your tank carries.

It was a question of what is your economy, not lets all bag the diesel landy thread AGAIN.

By the way, you will be doing at least 2 rebuilds to my 1 and seems im a mechanic, I service my 300TDI regularly and have had no trouble with it in the 4 years Ive had it.

290000km's and the Auto is getting tired but how many clutches have you put in your thing in that time.

LPG isnt a raught, a standard conversion to a disco with scuba tanks and a 60ltr sill tank will still cost around the $2800 to $3500 mark as it has for the last 3 years but the vapuor injection which is the most economical LPG system is mmore expensive but with better range per tank and less loss in power it makes up for it.

Good on ya for getting your V8 you allways wanted, but each to their own, I offered some information and my opinion, I didnt bag people with V8's, I said im amazed that more people with tham are not running them on LPG.

Last time I looked 4wding didn't necessarily mean going 'outback'. There are heaps of servos where I go 4wding. In fact my thirsty V8 will get from my house to the parks and back towing a camper on one standard tank.

When I bought my Disco a Scuba tank install cost $2500 and the twin underfloor LPG with petrol tank in the rear quarter cost $3500. That was quoted from multiple sources. Then when I tried to book it in it had jumped to $3500 and $4500 respectively. How is that not an instant huge jump?

Anyway I'm not going to continue this as I have better things to do.

So how many times is it you have to fill up in 1000km's, well I fill up once with my long range tank with plenty in reserve but used to get 900+km's from the standard tank.

It's all well and good saying that you get from servo to servo or from you place to where you go and back on a tank but there maybe someone out there that may go places like the victorian high country where there are srevos in the major towns but you can drive several hundred km's in mud and steep hills which absolutly suck the juice that may think from your coments that in the bush they have fuel readily available.

This forum is bigger than just around brisbane so and your local area so think a bit bigger before having a go.

As far as LPG install prices, I know several installers down here that put their prices up when the price of the parts went up but it was only about 15% for a standard install but the vapour injection is pricey.

I dont know what is happening in QLD and I dont assume to know so I will happilly take your word for it.

I didnt post in this thread to cause any crap, just to make open comment that there are alternatives to crappy fuel economy.

I have no problem with people with V8's, it's a personal choice but people are alowed to make comment on a public forum.
