At first I thought he was just trying to reduce his eBay fees by loading the postage charges...but he's answered a question saying he's happy to allow a local pick-up, so someone's going to get a bargain if it stays near that price.

My take on those whom whinge about ebay postage![]()
For some reason the postage quoted from the UK is hardly ever correct although if advertised on Ebay I think they would enforce it.
I recently bought an item from Xeng in the UK. The postage was double what the item was worth. I emailed them and they looked into the postage cost and said the postage calculator (or whatever) was wrong from the site they got the prices from. They ended up reducing the postge costs by about 400percent which made the item affordable.

In the case of the RRS headlight, that $60 does include regisatration and insurance and it will be bulky so the real figure may be high.
In the case of the wifi card from the UK, that a blatant rip-off. He's a commercial seller who would be doing regular mailings.
I tend to avoid buying from the UK as postage costs are very high. The USA is much better.

will the headlight fit the P38 or are you finaly upgrading to something else? I think with the amount the p38 costs you in repairs you could be paying for a RRS.

Postage from UK and Europe is extraordinarily expensive. There is no longer a sea mail service from there. A friend got a set of operation, parts and repair manuals from Poland for a milling machine, and another from Ukraine for a seven ton cylindrical grinder. The air mail charges were respectively (round figures), Poland A$400, Ukraine A$220, for admittedly quite impressive stacks of books. As from May 14 this year there is no longer a sea mail service from the U.S. Post Office to Australia. I have been warning my regular clients to expect price increases, severe in some cases, as my sea-mail stock is depleted and replaced by air-mail. I no longer buy from UK/Europe except where there is no alternative and impress upon the client that the exact shipping cost will be charged to them and it could be substantial.

That is something bidders need to be aware of with eBay. Some sellers load the postage to increase their margin.
I once won a bid on a scanner for my son only to find it was a local seller and he wanted $40 for postage. He would not allow pickup so I complained to eBay. Lucky for me the seller backed off and did not proceed with the sale.
