Far too much as far as I'm concerned. Keep an eye on QFleet's auctions.

That's where cousins get a lot of theirs from.

Seriously now (if I can be) check this out from Redbook,

    http://www.redbookasiapacific.com/au...mily=LCDEFENDE

    Red Book Code LAND03BW
    2003 LAND ROVER DEFENDER

    130 03MY Crew Cab Cab Chassis Dual Cab 4dr Man 5sp 4x4 2.5DT
    Prices based on km80,000 - 120,000 Trade in price guide*$18,900 - $21,100National average price - private sale*$23,400 - $27,800Price when new (RRP)$49,400all prices quoted are GST inclusive

The dealers will always be more expensive than private sellers but I was told that my new 1997 Defender would devalue 25% in the first year, and it did. I don't know what the % is today but it might be higher.

As an example I paid $45,000 for a new Defender 9 seat wagon in January 1998 and traded it on a $42,000 2 year old Discovery in September 2004 and got $21,000 trade on the Defender. They only offered me $17,000 but mine had only 70,000km on the clock.

If you trade, the bottom line is always changeover price. Based on what the dealer mentioned as their vehicle prices I would ask a trade in price of at least $8,000 over redbook prices and negotiate from there. That would probably end the conversation with the dealer but at least you would see them for what they are.

Oh and don't get caught with accessories that might be fitted, allow only half new cost at the most to increase value. Take off value if there are holes from accessories that have been removed e.g. ex gov vehicles. Warranties can be purchased from insurance companies so don't accept the extra price due to 12 months warranty.

Keep an eye out on this forum as members often sell their 'only driven on Sundays' vehicles.

    Happy shopping.

    Smile Defender pricing.

I recently sold my 2003 Xtreme (MY02) with 66K for 38 grand. I used various guides for pricing and advertised it on the carsales.com website with pics and it sold after approx. a month.
I think that's a reasonable price for a well looked after vehicle and would never sell to a dealer at their very low prices.
It's OK for those looking for a great deal to want a fully optioned vehicle for a rock bottom price, but they hate the thought of themselves being screwed out of their pride and joy at some later stage!
Hoefully every seller will hold out for as much as possible and keep prices up for good vehicles........ except when I decide to get another one!
