hmmm....
seem to remember a saying about "reformed ......." (fill in appropriate vice)
:)
I too didn't take up the habit untill relatively older than most and wish I never had, I was about 17, I'm now 34 & have never been able to kick it for more than a month. My biggest problem is that I enjoy a smoke:( Port Royal is my poison, but I absolutely cannot stand tailors. People take pity on me rolling up and offer up a ciggie but I can only taste the sulphur and gives me a headache.
I know I have to give it away tho, I know what it's doing to me. I climbed a sandhill the other weekend probably 100m high; I had to stop for a break twice. I know what it's costing me too, lot's of trekking $.
Think I'll check out the nicotine inhaler - I just don't function if I try to go without, my brain just loses the plot and I get dizzy & nauseous.
Quitting is easy, I've done it hundereds of times!!:D
However it has been 21 years since I quit the last time. Now can't stand the smell of smoke, or someone who has been smoking. When I quit I was smoking between 60-70 a day, and gave it up because they were costing me a dollar a pack.
My reasoning about the dangers was, If I got lung cancer, I would be dead within 2 years. That is just the statistics. I didn't see all the vascular disease, or emphysema lasting 20 - 30 years.
I work in the field of cardiac surgery, and believe that if people didn't smoke, I would not be in buisness. (so smoke em if you got em, I have a mortgage to pay).:wasntme:
Just the same, everyone would be better off if people didn't smoke.
Cheers,
Ken
Must admit i still get tempted by the poop sticks when playing poker. might have to give those cigars the flick.
Except that it is drinking to excess that causes problems. A glass of red a few nights a week is beneficial.:p
There is no safe level for cigarettes. One is enough to be harmful, even if it's only someone near you smoking the thing. :bat:
At least with drink, you have to do it yourself. Passive smoke is a problem, but I don't know of a problem with passive drink. (Except that it means you are missing out.)
Does everyone get a feeling of pride when they start a thread that lasts for 5 pages?? LOL.
I might have too talk about all my vices

and those delightful crispy m&ms in the blue packets.
I quit 3 or 4 weeks ago after smoking up to 70 a day for more than 50 years. I feel fairly ratsh*t right now and probably will for quite a while....but I don't really feel like having a smoke. I AM enjoying saving around $80 to $120 a week
