I'm on my third day without a smoke, no patches just PK gum, so far so good, except my jaw is aching from chewing, and I've already saved over $100.

I gave up over 10 years ago after trying to give up previously for 30+ times. In the end the only incentive that worked was to spend the weekly equivalent amount of money on buying my first 4WD. Health & fitness arguments didn't work for me back then.

Initially I felt worse. Coughs, colds. (I never has a cold whilst I smoked. Maybe cigs killed any bugs before they got into my lungs?). Took a while before I felt the benefits.

Beware the '3' anniversary's; 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months, 3 years (ask me in 20 years about 3 decades).

Now, I am also the worst possible non-smoker, the 'Ex' smoker. Gee's I hate the smell of it now!

Way to go man, keep at it, and don't be afraid to use something if cold turkey is going to be too much for you.

I actually had a slip again the day we went for the drive to Border ranges. I left without a patch and nothing was open to get some. That's ok though, I don't beat myself up, but I am not defeatist and say 'oh well just take it up and be done with'. I got home and put one on and have been durry free since. I'm not giving up on giving up. I don't care if I wear patches for months. It costs the same as a pouch and every day that I'm not smoking, I'm not smoking.

You may be right. However, like BigDog, I can't stand the smell of them so I cannot ever see me going back to them. I never feel like one, even during a night of drinking.

The thought of having one never enters my head. I guess that walking down the street and crossing the road to get away from the smell of a cigarette, or looking at the butts on the footpath helps! I'd like to see the (butt) tossers fined!

I kicked a 40 aday habit the hard way, I made a conscious decision to give up there and then and I did, I just threw them away and 5 years later I am glad I did as they would only multiplyed the problems I have now with the heart, Its hard dont let anybody say its not, U must make sure u do your self some justice and steer away from smokers, if u drink give it a miss for a while its hard to drink and not want to smoke, u have to change your lifestyle, all those little times u felt u had to hava a chuff , do something else, u can do it, u dont need patches or stuff like that, u must be in the right frame of mind and keep telling yourself every smoke is a coffin nail. if u smoke in the house, wash everything.

A mate of mine has now kicked the habbit over 4 months now after smoking for 45years. He is on some tablets which he said are fantstic. He now looks better, not the grey skin look he had. He gets no withdrawals, nothing. In fact, he just missed the routine of picking up a cigarrette whilst reading the paper etc.
