It seems to me that the proportion of active members is pretty high - anyone know how this compares to other forums?

If people sign up for it and then continue to be active, it shows that they appreciate what the forum provides.

I'm admin on the RangeRovers.Net forum. When I started doing it a month back, we had 285 pages (50 names per page) of registered members.

I've been pruning back the spambot entries and am back to 252 pages (12,613 names). I have a LONG way to go 'cos the phpBB version 2 software is terrible for user management. (We've changed to manual activation to reduce the spam)

220 pages (1,100 members) of those registrations have never made a single post. Less than 250 members have made more than 100 posts. 11 of us are over 1000 posts.

it is a condition of access here that if you dont post within 12 months your login is deleted.

phbb2 is what aulro forums started on, when i think of the hours i used to spend maintaining it and the endless hours i spent modifing it to try and defeat the hackers and spambots and other drivel.... and then there are the performance issues

    i dont envy you ron....

I would attribute the high number of active members on this forum to the openness of discussion and good administration. I know of other forums that have many members but only a handful (<30) who are regular contributors and do the majority of the posting. Its a much nicer environment here than a Victorian forum I know of that receives very little traffic due to its inability to discuss anything other than Land Rover vehicles. Its members frequently remind people to keep discussion on the topic of what we drive... but frankly, thats not what its all about, its a forum and by definition a place where people should be able to discuss any aspect of their lives. This forum achieves these conflicting objectives perfectly, which most other forums cannot.
