    Servicing Disco Td5

Started my first Service of the Disco this evening, all i'd like to know is which idiot designs a great vehicle and then puts the oil filter where it is. Was going great, had'nt spilt a drop of oil on the floor until i had to punch a screwdriver through the filter to get enough leverage to get the bastard off!!!
Our rental agreement specifically states "no servicing of cars in the garage".
    Oops.......

Thats what I now use. Started off with a strap wrench which worked a bit but the oversize multigrips works a treat. I also purchased a special sump plug and drainhose from"Difflock" a UK website and now do "not a drop spilled" oil changes(unlike my 200tdi)

Well i eventually gave up trying not to spill oil on the floor, i managed the diff oil changes without making a mess, using a large syringe, but when it came time to do the auto box
i had another look at the oil filter strap today and modified it to suit, it now works.....

Having changed oils in a lot of vehicles and I have learnt (the messy way) to invest in any tool/device that helps. The sump plug/drainhose combination I suggested could probably be made yourself with a lot of mucking around -- but buy one, and a specially made for the job 2-4litre container/hand pump works a treat for the diffs and gear/tranny boxes AND a large flat container to catch anything, I use an old cut down baby bath! Good luck
