    "Junk" shops

Anybody else here have a propensity towards junk shops, such as op-shops, so called "antique places" etc?

This week I was up at Rutherglen... and whilst venturing through the many antique and some downright junk shops looking for old pressure lanterns, came across a nice Tilley X246 in very good condition. Cost me $30, and this afternoon $25 in parts from T.W. Sands. After a good clean up it started first go and works fantastically, very happy for $55! I've been trying to track one down on Ebay but they go for silly money, plus $55 is a lot cheaper than the $260-odd-plus-shipping that they go for new www.tilleylamp.co.uk. Should prove handy camping.

Anyone wanting to do something different one day should venture down to that massive junk shed in mornington (sorry I forget the name), there is all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff.

my best find in a second hand furniture store was an old DIY "teach yourself electronics" kit. Still in the box for $5.
    It used the zx80 mainboard.
I got over $200 on ebay

I also got a boxed, (as in unopened) ZX81 unbuilt in kit form, but I'm keeping that one

Yes - for example, some years ago got a quality spanner to fit the big nuts on the front of the rear radius arms at an Op Shop in Healsville - for $5!

Whenever I spot one of this sort of shop and have the time, I have a browse. Very good for finding Whitworth spanners, for example.

    Hi Ray,

By pre-lighter do you mean the rapid preheater "bloworch" that was on a few models or the clip on methylated spirits wick? The torches are unavailable now, but the clip on preheater and methylated spirits jar are available

Tilley, Lighting torch 151 with Jar $14.60

S**t a brick, one of the junk shops had a Primus gas lantern. It was c/w bottle, original unmarked glass [and case I think], but being so old and presumably out of test I didn't even bother to check the price on it. It's in the antiques shop in Rutherglen with the sloping front, just up the hill from the BP if you're interested.
