Nice buggy
The results of that race speak for themselves 70 entrants and about 21 finishers. bloody tough
I raced the Pines last year in my Landrover. We didnt finish but a great track for 4wds. I was just looking at the results and a couple of WA guys did well. We will back in the future. We didnt go this year as we are racing the Aust Safari in a few weeks

Ken / Pedro - Well spotted (or good guess?)
My mate actually owns most of the vehicle, took him about three years to complete.
This was built with his own hard earned $$$$$, but we are now looking for some sponsorship so we can compete in more away events.
It is a Southern Cross Mk V, A-Arm Front end.
Powered by a Lexus quad cam 4.0L V8, standard motor, Motec Engine Management.
Use to have a Renault Gearbox up until this race.
Comes from their Master? Vans (they are apparently ok in the right vehicle).
(We kept on destroying it, but broke different parts every time)
- It now has an Albins 5 Speed Offroad Gearbox (This is the bit I own)
These are the best in the business, bloody expensive too
We've spent the last month or so modifying the vehicle to suit it,
Had some dramas last week and only drove it out of the shed on Thursday arvo.
Track had no caution markers for that section, the next hill had them.
This happened through a section of recently clear-felled pine forest,
a grotty track, nice little crest in the track, off-camber - side-slope, moved us down the hill about two feet - straight into the stump line...
- It also claimed four other vehicles(two straight after us!)
I've got in-car video, but it'll take a while for me to convert/upload some...
Pedro - do you race offroad?
Just so happens a nice new US built Truck was racing here too,
Started beside us, but we hosed it off the start line
(Oh, then he finally caught/passed us through the big woops section![]()

LOL!!!
funny how the trucks have more travel,,
and usually more HP!!
a renault was always gunna be the problem,,
I dont think ANYBODY has ever made them work with a half decent engine,,
Go the Charley box!!!
Theres a few Lexus motors getting around over here,, Laurence Svenson runs one,, (most around 9 grand!!) has these twin overhead exhausts,,,
is it a new frame or an old one with a new front end? that engines a pretty tight fit!!!
edit!
its a new one!!!
look at those rear shockies line up!!!
PS edit!
is one of those a big hydraulic bump stop,,?

Definitely a new frame, motor is tighter now due to new gearbox sits motor further back and up (slightly), but it was always a snug fit.
This was one of the early Mk V frames with A-Arm front, the later ones vary slightly, but it sorta depends on what the customer wants the frame to be built around (motor/trans combo, plus shock choice/setup etc.)
On the rear(per side), 2 long travel shocks, one with 2 springs(primary/secondary spring rates), and one hydraulic bump stop - and we've used all of the travel.

The Renualt gearbox was an unknown for us, basically we got the motor & trans & frame as a package.
In hindsight, we should have kept saving for an Albins...
It cost us 1/3 price (of an Albins) in repairs to the Renault UN5 in under 12months.

Maybe we should have a motorsport topic thread ...
