How would I know, NT only got a maximum speed limit in January and demerit points started in July and they let people get their licence at 16![]()
What a shame we don't have a federal system for licensing and universal road traffic and drink driving laws, then questions like this wouldn't arise...
Mr Speaker my question is directed at the NSW members for AULRO
Now as I understand NSW Learners may only drive up to a maximum speed of 80km/h. Is that a law that applies to driving on those roads within the state or a condition on the licence? So when Mr NSW Ls person goes into Victoria, say on the Hume, are they still required to 80 or 110? Conversely can Victoria learners be normal and do 110 through NSW or do they need to be like their NSW counterparts and do 80 as well?
On a more relevant point can Vic's on Ps drive at 110 in NSW or do they get subjected to the NSW regulation of a maximum speed of 90?
I asked a VicRoads, the so called "RTA", a Vic policeman and a NSW cop and they all referred each other to each other and I await an answer
Cooma is far enough away without having to add 22.3% to the travel time piddling along a safe dual carriageway freeway

Unless things have changed, I found (while I lived in Victoria and the kids were learning to drive and we were driving in NSW) the more restrictive rules apply in general - i.e. specifically, the NSW speed limits apply to interstate L and P drivers (and expect this to be enforced, particularly over Easter), and also apply to NSW drivers while interstate (although I doubt this is enforced). However, a 17 y.o. NSW P plater in Victoria IS allowed to drive, but only in a NSW registered car. (When we first had a learner in the car we were not aware of the restricted speed in NSW - but we were lucky and got away with it!)

LOL, yeah there are a few massive loopholes. Mate of mine did that in SA. I also know a few "middle aged people" who got their licences from the back of cornflakes packets.
re "When in Rome do as the Romans do" .... So its ok drive at the maximum Italian autostrada limit of 130...? cool thnx.
