Just another 'bigger tyre' question for a Disco

    Hi
I have a 96 V8 Disco auto which currently has 235/70/16's on it, I went to tyre place yesterday and enquired about fitting 235/85/16's - I was told there was no way I could fit them as they would rub on the control arms on the front... Is this correct and if so how do you guys with the big tyres I have seen fitted to your cars in pics get around this ??
    Thanks

You can adjust the steering stops so that the tyres do not rub - of course, your turning circle will then be compromised .....

You'll need to trim the guards a bit and probably consider a lift as well.

    Cheers,

They are the same width so shouldnt rub, its the height that would be the problem normally.

    Hi Mate
    D2?????
If so no problems at all.I have new 235/85 MTRs on mine.
I have a 2 " lift and nothing touches at all,no need to adjust steering stops.
If its a diesel,be aware you will be too overgeared on the highway, mine is,just means 4th gets used on hills much more than previously,Im guessing they wouldnt worry a V8.
Mine actually drives BETTER around the city with the taller gearing,ONCE YOU ARE MOBILE!!!!,the gears are much longer and you can go back to 2nd for blistering TD5 acceleration!!!
If you do alot of towing like I do the diesel isnt as happy with the new gearing and slurps diesel easier!!!
They give plenty of extra under diff clearance off-road.

Agggh the height IS why they rub, when your on full lock the tyre is closer to the control arm the taller the tyre is

    Hi GreenGumby
    Sorry I didnt read properly,D1!!!!!!!
I can now help you further.
I have a set of 235/85 tyres on Series rims.Yor Disco rims have a better offset so if mine dont rub you should be ok with yours. You are welcome to try my Series rims that will fit the Disco.Bit of messing around but I do have a rattle gun and trolley jack.
