    servicing...

    Hi Guys...

I guess its more opinion im after..

My DII td5 is up for its 100k service.. it has full dealer service (barbagello's perth) prior to me owning it.

I am going to keep the engine oil changes to every 5k by doing it myself, but what i want to know... is it worth keeping a log book service (i think thats the terminology) from a reputed garage (but not barbagellos)

OR is it worth getting another highly recommended mechanic (from here) to do the service (and i dont know if he fills the log book in i have yet to ask)

i have the feeling the first will retain the value better, however i get the feeling the second will be the most thorough service.

    Thoughts and experiences appreciated please!

    Thanks

    Steve

If it was a "precious" brand with very low KMs per year (think Ferrari/Porsche - only driven once a month...) then it can make a difference, but I think as long as it is a reputable LR establishement then that is good enough. The value you'll get when you come to sell your car at (say) 150,000Km will not be much different if it's a Dealer or a LR specialist, just as long as it's been fully serviced.

the red book tells the story no difference in real value as assessed as condition of car on inspection

dollars you have spent dont mean much

all it may do is give confidence to potential buyer car is reliable and problems have been fixed

as a private seller your not obiliged to give a warranty to new purchaser so why bother

as trade to dealer well the name stealer says it all

Consider also how long you plan to keep the vehicle.

After all service on a 15yo land rover probably doesn't mean much - condition at the time will be what counts.

But if you plan to swap over at say 5 years it would carry a fair bit more weight.

    Hi Steve.
    Go with Richard(Kie4),he is good.
Use synthetic engine oil,10000k easy and up to 20000k(depending who you listen too) service intervals on the TD5.10000k is common, they have a secondary centrifical oil filter which combined with synthetic oils will remove much smaller carbon particles than normal filtration.
Use mineral oil and you are back to 5000k intervals.
Mine is due for an oilchange and the oil is still very clean, motor has done 225000ks!!!.

    Thanks Guys..

was looking at using richard (have Pm'd him and awaiting reply) but was really after the log book value opinions.. which im thinking it has value but im planning on keeping the car so will probably not be of that much value by that time..

am using penrite hpr diesel 5 oil at the mo.. especially on recommendation by tombraider and phil633 also the penrite website specifically mentions the td5!
    http://www.penrite.com.au/html/s02_a...&nav_top_id=55

im currently doing the oil every 5000k's but its more the rest of the car (gearbox etc) that i want doing properly!

Again thanks for your help.. as usual!

    Steve
