That is because of the way that the warranty system works. Parts are ordered in and paid for by the Dealer. Then a claim is submitted and costs are reimbursed. Any non genuine parts used will raise an eyebrow or two and is usually only allowed if there is no alternative. Examples being locally sourced batteries, outsourcing work (A/C regas and the like), etc.

When I quoted under $700 dollars for the Maxidrive axles to the service manager, he seemed somewhat surprised. Seems he is not used to dealing with people who don't own RR's RRSprots, or D3's.
Overall have been happy with the service they provide, but will be taking my car elsewhere once the warranty has expired.

You don't have to have warrenty work done at a Land Rover dealer, they only need to be an authorised mechanic.

$1700 for maxi axles and fitting, $650 for axles and $1050 for labour that works out at 10hrs labour at dealer rates:eek2:

Exactly.

As I understand the rules - SERVICING can be done by ANY A-Grade Mechanic, as long as they use genuine parts, and the approved lubricants, etc., and document each service appropriately in the log book.

But WARRANTY work can only be done by the dealer. I imagine they will make you jump through a few more hoops if you haven't taken it to them to service though.
