    Service issues for series 3

The front ball pivots, mine appear to be greased filled, should these be oil filled? should I strip the hubs and clean up the bearings and repack with grease or fill with oil, its best I do check on the bearings after 12 years storage, naturally I should do the same with the rear hubs as well, are these greased or oiled filled, the little grub screw on the hub is too release pressure yes? if so at what intervals
I will replace all rod ends and uni joints with new greasable units
The engine has really old skanky oil, would it be wise to add some kero to flush or use a proper flush, whats the best oil to run in the 2.25, is the oil filter a part u can get from REPCO being the cartridge type.

The diffs and box will need a oil change too I guess, what grade oil 90?
This is it for service stuff, but one last thing can the selector spring in the transfer case be changed fromunder the vehicle without lifting floor plates?

    G'day Landyfromanutherland

First up drain the oil and replace the filter, (Royco R2069P) 4cyl 2.25ltre, refill with 10/30 to flush, then refill(replace with another NEW filter) with Pentire 20w-40W for everyday driving older engines about $30 for 5 litres, Ex-Supercheap the swivel hubs should be oil filled, with EP-90 same as gearbox, diffs, transfer case, and steering and relay box, the rear axle bearings were oil bath on earlier models, it is recommended to lubricate wheel bearings with W/B grease, and fill the hubs with 150 cc(ml) of EP-90 with an oil can, they will then last up to 100,000 miles if they are correctly adjusted, (the screw does not need to be undone to relieve pressure) check the Diff breathers are clean, unscrew from diff casing,(wash in petrol, shake until you hear ballbearing inside rattle)

    cheers

Penrite make a Liquid Grease that is ideal for the swivel hubs and the steering box. Some people use grease in the swivel hubs, it's okay, but it gets thrown out, whereas the oil or the liquid grease keeps the bearings better lubed.

Grease in the swivel housings will not adequately lubricate the upper swivel bearing, and is likely to not lubricate properly the universal. Either oil or liquid grease should be used.

would u recommend the fitting of long diff breathers coz I do envisage some wading through northern creeks and rivers at some time, probably should extend the gearbox vent to while at it, is there a quick easy home done method?
