And beside knowone voted for me

Anyway over rating just because of the make is wrong and we shouldn't do it just because they were doing it, i think that letting the mag know what was going on would have been a better coarse of action, after all the editor is a Landy fan

yes i agree baz and to be honest i was not aware that any landrover people fudged there results i knew they were talking about it due to a few toyota drivers doing it but i didn't think anyone on the forum had gone through with it, shame if they did as i thought we were better than them

Redback, Sorry we missed voting for you.

The gripe wasn't Toymotor people voting for other Toymotors, it was that some of them were voting "1" for anything NOT a toymotor

    And they still are.

Voting "10" for someone does no harm to anyone else, and the ratings were easily returned to normal by a few people voting less enthusiastically.

Voting "1" for a vehicle has a major impact on the overall rating and is less easily outbalanced by mid-range votes. And it is a direct attack on the rating of the vehicle in question.

There's an argument to be made that the AULRO-inspired ratings were "cheating," but they weren't hurting people and they weren't "spamming." The site is there for displaying and rating vehicles. If some group of nutters () think that anything with a Land Rover badge is worth "10" and anything else just isn't worth voting for at all, who is to say they are wrong?

    welp..

what amuses the crap out of me is that using the features they have in place, to vote for something you like, none of which is outside of any guidelines i have seen, you are derided and that is considered worse than going round down voting stuff because you dont like that particular brand....

    knock knock.....

i personally think the behavior of at least one of the admins was inexcusable and i wont anytime soon be supporting them by buying a mag with their name on it, sorry but some of the behavior was simply uncalled for.

i think the big difference between aulro and there is the attitude of the aulro users, most of whom will attempt to counsel someone if they see something out of place, before bringing it too a mods or admins attention... makes one hell of a difference...

    It was ME!!!

Well I feel I have kept quiet on the topic for long enough...

I kind of suspect that the "spamming" they were referring to on the Shed forum thingy was referring largely to my actions. See, the day that it all hit the fan I conducted a little "experiment"...

I noticed that in the space of a couple of hours many of the Landrovers which were rated 8+ with mostly 10/10s (presumably from members of this forum) suddenly disappeared off the top 30 and when I tracked them down their ratings had all dropped to 6-ish (including mine). A bunch of other-brand vehicles with no evidence of any real quality or commitment from their owners, un-modified, off-the-shelf APPLIANCES basically, started popping into the top 30. I suspect someone was just boosting them up to clear the Landrovers out since they mostly had the minimum number of votes only.

So I got about ten logins and started experimenting with the top 30 a bit to see just how useless the system was... and it surely was bloody useless! With only a couple of strategic votes here and there it was possible to totally re-organise the top 30!

I logged in simultaneously 10 times and started voting-up all the Landrovers that had previously been bagged off the table in the preceeding 2 hours. But I noticed that as fast as I could whack in 10/10 votes these other brand vehicles kept creeping into the top 30, in some case, vehicles without even a picture uploaded!!! Something fishy was definitely happening. Consequently I started hammering these new entries back down with 1/10s. I know this kind of negative voting is against the ethics we were all going on about but I was curious to see the results of a handfull of low scores on the averages. In any case, the vehicles that were popping up were decidedly low-grade and their owners might not have even been aware that someone was toying with them.

I kind of got a bit absorbed in this obscene waste of time, and before I knew it, I had probably posted about 300-400 individual votes. Every time I popped back to this forum, someone else had cleared out their votes so I dutifully put 10 x 10/10s back on for them. I am sure this activity would have registered with the mods and hence the blow-up - I just got a bit carried away.

Sorry guys for casting a cloud over our collective honour, but it really is one of the more f#$%ed-up systems I have seen on that site and I hope they get it sorted if they plan on keeping the ratings idea. If I could vote a dozen 1/10s for the clowns who dreamed it up then I would have.

Thats exactly why I was not happy. I haven't posted on there since. I still feel that that admin needs to make a public apology for his personal attitude to Land Rover owners. And yes I have taken it very personally and view him in a much worse way than any of the other Landy bashers. If an admin can get away with it then the site is not friendly. and does reflect badly on the magazine.
