Well The Western Australian Building Boom is Over.
For the first time in 6 years I have to ferret out my next job, Five of the 10 supervisiors I have canvassed have been put off..
Although judging by the amount of developing still going on I'd say its a lull in the battle..
It caught me off guard when I asked my Super for the next plan and he said there wasnt any for 3 weeks..
9 months ago the WA Gvt had a meeting with the major builders to slow things down..the d*** h**** f***** up and stopped it altogether...well A deserved rest is coming up![]()

Probably just part of the cycle, election (g)looming, interest rates going up a bit, stock market a bit wobbly etc.
It should not do the country too much damage, after all, if people have not saved while to boom times were here they will never save a buck.
Dawg got any laborers looking for work
if so send them over![]()
130's rule
So true. Unfortunately it will hit the younger generation hard. I have 3 grown up children and they were too young to remember the last recession.
When I taught at TAFE I tried to prepare the apprentices for hard times. They would never accept that someone could go to work in the morning and find their job was gone.
I had that happen twice. Both times I had to wait years to receive my entitlements. The last time was in 1990 when the place I was working at went bust 3 weeks before Christmas.
I was production manager at that place so I saw the writing on the wall. I had the TAFE job to start late January 1991 but I had to front up to CentreLink, or whatever it was called then, and register for the dole. The women there really made me feel low in society and called me a bludger. Not fun.
get on the private jobs nige, better money (cash) and as many cups of tea as you can drink, all made for you![]()
Yep Nige is right
Over the last two months things have slowed considerably
Ive gone from six jobs a week to two or three if your lucky
Nearly had a punch on with a bloke this week for scabbing
My contractor has employed 3 teams from Malaysia and Singapore
In my mind its the biggest load of Crap they say we have flushers sitting at home with nothing to do so send the bloody imports back home and give us back our work
Never since I started Fixing has there been such a lull in the industry
does that mean the portals are crossed of the xmas list
Might mean that people doing extensions can find tradies willing to do the work more easily. That is if they can afford to do anything with the rising interest rates...
Don't know if the property boom is topping out though. My neighbours just sold their house in 10 days! At a price I thought was well over the odds...
