it really depends on your job and industry

AWA in construction, major resource projects no issue you earning $140000 per annum for working a 65 hour week.

AWA in hospitality and tourism, child care your being screwed on penalties.

But workers battling bosses over entitlements been around since the days of the Pyramids being built

haha that was funny, as I opened it I was starting to get my union hackles up. Good to see your boss has a sense of humour.

    LOL.
But on a serious note best thing that ever happend to us in the mining industry. No strikes, regular income, good pay rises. There are people who it disadvantages though, especially in small business and hospitality/tourism etc. Min standards need to be kept, but without confrontationalist power seeking unions.
If union members where realistic they would be asking why some high profile union delegates in WA are living in milion dollar properties and have substantial holdings when claiming to be average workers. These are the worst capitalists o all because they deny it.

    Hi there

Well said Craige - I also work in the mining industry and have been working on AWA's now for past 6 years with no major issues.

but as you said it may effect the smaller business.

Well enjoyed the laugh - all the best

Now Craig - you wouldn't be referring to a certain short round little fella with an apartment at the top of the new Raffles development and part ownership of a pub up north by any chance ????
    Cheers .........

Yep, that looks about right to me.

Ah, the good old days of "Articles of Agreement".
That, my friends, is a work place agreement, many hundreds of years old in the maritime industry.
And a mean son of a bitch contract it is too. The company owns you 24\7\6 months at a time.
YOU are responsible for the ships safety. Even along side in harbour.
YOU are responsible for negligent damage and it is garnished from your wages.
YOU must be at the ready any time day or night, in case you ship needs you.
You are also held responsible for the lives of all on board, at all times. Crew and any passengers or company office staff.

And I loved that job. With all the responsibility, the long, long hours, the cramped living conditions, the awkward and sometimes dangerous working conditions. There are few who can cope with the demands. After half a life time, that included me as well. But I loved the job.

Back to the gist of the thread.

Right from the start, when all this "workplace agreement" garbage started I said to myself.

    YOU POOR SAD BLOODY FOOLS.

Say goodbye to everything we, and our fathers and grand fathers fought for, for all these years.

And if you need someone to blame it

I tried to warn and got shouted down. Probably still will.
I'm used to it, Apparently I have very broad shoulders on my 5 ft 6 inch frame.
