    Death by burning?

The news item describes the Jag as a "vintage" car so who knows what's happened to it during it's life.
The cause of it burning is not known at this stage so to suggest it was down to "British reliabilty" as if it was a built in design defect is not only incorrect but un-necessary.

Wait until the coroner has done what he no doubt will be asked to do, to determine cause before condemning an old Jag or any other vehicle just because they come from Britain.

I saw a school friend die durig a car fire following a crash and it wasn't pretty. In fact he was so badly burnt I never realised who it was until his name and pic was published in a local rag.
I hope the fumes put him under before the flames got that bad.

Take it easy Alan - I'm just having a bit of a joke about the reliability bit...I'm onto my third Brit vehicle, so clearly I like them, but noone can suggest that the older (or newer!) ones are as reliable as the Jap ones - particularly wrt electrics. We accept that and drive them for different reasons...

I had a amps guage flunk in a series 2 that caused a major fire, at the time i wished I had a bucket of fuel so we could give her a decent send off but some idiot produced a fire ext and put it out, its twice now I have rewired a car from scratch with new wire and tape and all new fittings, talk about hard work

Well the poms werent electrical wizards, just look at anything made by lucas, I figured it was easy to rewire from scratch, in a way it was, it certianly never failed again not with all the fuses and fusable links I fitted, mental note for those who rush wiring jobs and I learnt the hard way, solder everything and shrink tube is the bees knees, twitching wires is D for disaster. No drinking beer doesnt make wiring easier, specially when doing headlight switch!
