Thread: Cmon TAFF tell us what happened???

hi nige unfortunately it had nothing to do with the recovery and more to do with the powerlines on sat and a pretty heavy right foot together with a buckeful of frustration, attempting to get up some slippery hills.
rich (kie 4 ) pulled apart the diff yesterday morning and there wasn't a lot of it left - all the gears had stripped their teeth and there was a puddle of metal in the bottom of the housing.
in terms of the bogged vehicle it too was a disco which had sunk upto it's chassis in the sandy bed of moore river - my diff finally gave way just cruising up the river in 4 low and had to be recovered to the bogged vehicle by a landcruiser .
they had tried to recovery the bogged vehicle on sunday with a landcruiser and a snatch strap. they snapped the strap and a recovery point similar to that of ladas has dragged a hole perhaps 2 inches long into the chassis rail where it was attached. thus they gave up till monday.
the recovery on monday involved my disco
(which had to be lashed to a landcruiser) with the winch attached to the bogged disco which at first did nothing other than pull us towards it, then the bogged disco was airbagged at the rear to overcome the suction of the bed before re-winching and finally getting it free.
we all then headed back to the road to re-inflate and go home. i was having difficulty in a soft spot on the sand (in front wheel drive) and had to pulled out by the landcruiser which then was going to pull me all the way to the road after about 2 minutes the front wheels locked for no apparent reason and we came to a halt. a few back and forths and the front wheels were free again, we got to the road reinflated and headed home. driving down wanneroo rd at 80km/h probably more 90 cos the speedo's out and i said to rich the steering's starting to wobble then all of a sudden the front corner dropped and the wheel overtook us and headed into the bush. the car stayed perfectly straight on the road till about 20km/h where i turned it off into the verge before using the airbag again and a wheel nut pinched of all other wheels to refit the wheel. so all in all nige a pretty uneventful few days
