Flinders Ranges - too many things to visit please help

I'm planning to spend 5 days in the Flinders Ranges and am thinking about spending some time at Wilpena and Arkaroola and doing day trips from these two locations.

I picked up The Flinders Ranges Adventure Guide by Ron and Viv Moon which is packed with heaps of trips but there are too many places go in the time I have.

What would people suggest as the best places to visit which would help cut down all the possibilites?

    Thanks Chris

Personally i wouldn't stay at either of these places, i would stay at Arkapena, Makapena, (these are $15 a night, flush dunny and hot shower, it's bush camping) Chambers Gorge or Paralachinka Gorge (these are free no facilities).

But if your going to Wilpena, Rawnsley station have day drives for $45 a vehicle that are supposed to be the better of the self drives in the Flinders.

Onyl been there once meself .. but I recall Brachina Gorge and the Aroona Valley are pretty speccy...and the campgrounds are good too ( bush camping with dunnies )
.......and make sure you do the walk from Wilpena Pound campground into the pound itself and go up on the ridge - fascinating
I'm envious ...the SA guys will help you out......
..oh and get the Hema Flinders Map -some good hints on there for the best places to see in a short time.

If you're going to Wilpena, then Skytrek is always a good day out:

Also, a bit further south, but with more challenging 4wding and camping is Bendleby Ranges:

Give Arkaroola a miss, a dump, all the other places mentioned here are good, try Blinman and the copper mines or even across to the salt lakes, beautifrul area, Regards Frank.

Parachilna Gorge is excellent, although I have to say I haven't been there for 5 years or more. I agree with Tank on Arkaroola.

Arkaroola is bog for the money...nice place to take photos though and if you want a tour around the place, they do it in a Tojo

Not sure if you can drive yourself about the place - it's been about 8 years since i've been there and i don't think much has changed since then..

go for a ride on the Pitchie Richie Train think its at Quorn or Hawker, pity u dont have time for a hike coz if u hike up into the Ranges from Wilpena Pound there is a huge gorge, u look over the edge and u can watch huge wedge tail eagles circling this makes the whole trip worthwile, it was breathtaking then it would be now, that area is gods country, I am from Port Augusta originally and can gaurantee its bueaty around the ranges, these towns and many other surrounding are well worth a look, the old pubs the beer, the counter meals, decent pies just dont drink Southwark beer, its not called green death for nothing, u wont be disappointed

Make sure you stock up on things before Wilpena pound. Biggest ripp off prices for tourists. Got my gas cylinder filled there nearly had a heart attack on the cost. And seeing what they charged for groceries.
