Maxi locker? Any locker?

There's no such thing as a cheap option when it comes to diff locks (unless you buy second hand). persoanlly I prefer maxi-Drives. Not a cheap bit of gear buit well worth the xtra $$$ over the ARB.

Nothing wrong with ARB's (I had one before) just I find with the MD's you get a complete package that fits up without chasing up extra bits here and there. As Hiline mentioned, the compressor can fail as well whereas with MD it's a vaccum operated actuator on the diff (as long as the engines running, you can use them).

That's my opinion. Rear MD is about 20 years old and only played up once in the 9 years I've had it (actuator was full of sludge and mud, but bugger me the bastard still worked :eek::eek:). front I got 3 years ago and nil issues to date :D

I fit alot of lockers of all the brands to vehicles, I always end up back at Detroit Lockers, I am not knocking any brands of lockers, they are all good but SIMPLICITY IS GOOD !, Alot lot of components are relied apon with Airlockers, For the landrover range the full detroit in the rear with the Detroit Trutrack in the front is a tough combination to go past especially value for money!! The truetrack gives about 80% lock in the front but the steering both on and offraod is much better than all lockers, you loose some amount of lock yes, but its much nicer on your drive train and its as good as bullet-proof once fitted correctly. 100% Drive in the rear and 80% Drive in the front, some rear billetet axels and you have a very very capable landy and be happy that your drive line is safer !

Do you have the axle with the locking dog splines on it or is it just the "normal" replacement axle?

If you dont have the axle to suit the locker, then it is useless and you will need to buy another. Maxi's have a sliding "dog" on the passenger side (on the salisbury) axle that locks the diff. These are the axles supplied with the lockers. "Normal" replacement axles dont have the dog splines on 'em.

Of course you can buy the axles separately and you may already have them....I just thought I would bring it to your attention if you dont already know about it.:)

I should add that what I have written above is only relavent to Maxi Drive diff locks.

You can use any suitably splined axle with the other lockers (ARB, Jac Mac, Detroit etc).

Well mine has a 130 rear housing and ARB centre and Maxi axles.....

Go see the Toyo near the big round about on creswick rd guys and tell them Geoff Fisher told you to come to them..
They do Rover as well, but dont advertise...

Get a few prices...

ARB compressor will cost you about $200 with all the lines and fittings and crap...
Locker is about $1400 for a Salisbury, then them fitting it will be about $400 i guess.... so $2000 is abot right....

Maxi diff will be dearer as the install time is alot more.

Sadly the cost for extra traction is not cheap...
