If it's out of a Mustang the Casting # should be something like this C6ZE-#### (example only), translated means C= the 60's decade, 6 is the year of the decade, Z denotes Mustang, E = Engine (part), i.e. an engine out of a 1966 Mustang, Regards Frank.

see, thats where it gets tricky,,,all this was in a bedford van I rebuilt---

the engine had NO(repeat no) makings on it, no numbers at all. (had to stamp my own engine numbers on it to register it). it had blanked off antipollution piping in the heads, which the mechanic thought was the giveaway, (did ozzie windsors have antipollution pipes?) and a C4 and 9inch,

put new rings and bearings in which is where I thought the 4.4 came in,,

    all old news now,,,

It isn't stamped, the yanks stopped using stamped engine numbers because so many engines were built, the numbers I'm talking about are Cast into and upon every metal engine part and as the 289 was only built in the sixties the prefix for a 289 mustang would have been either C4, C5 or C6 with the Z identifying it as mustang, Regards Frank. BTW F.O.R.D. means First On Race Day
