    Rear ladder fitment (Defender 110)

On a LR Defender 110, should a rear one-piece ladder be bolted to the body above the guttering, or just allowed to rest in the guttering and be bolted at the bottom only, near the light cluster?

I think I know the answer, but would like to confirm.

I'll also add that you might want to re-inforce with a metal plate, on the inside, where you bolt it at the top...

Maybe some ladders must be bolted at the top and others not. (Other advice I'm getting is different.) This one is from Fore Runner, South Africa. I thought it a bit odd that there was no pre-drilling of the ladder, and no instructions came with it. What did come, though, was two 1 3/4" bolts, each with three washers, one locking nut and one ordinary nut.

    Still confused.

The Frontrunner ladder does look like it mounts to the gutter, unless your a lightweight person or you do not want to climb up onto thwe roof I'd be drilling and bolting the top mount with a backing plate behind it.

you may notice on their website they have also listed a two piece "legal ladder" for a 110.

Yes, Dobbo, I think you're right and I think that's what I'll do. It's called "added security". Some drilling, two bolts and a plate sure beats a broken back. Accidents DO happen.
