Try getting so crook that you have to resign your job and live on Government welfare.

It can be done but only because I had private insurance to pay out medical expenses and the mortgage.

You didn't have to quit. You get Sickness Allowance if you have a job to return to when fit, and if you have exhausted all paid leave. If no job, then you get Newstart Allowance with a medical certificate that exempts you from the work test and job-seeking obligations. Although in my experience, most people with a private sector job to return to at the 6 month review, rarely still had one at the 9 month Field Officer "at home" review.

I'm contemplating loosing 40k a year to be happier at work, dont know what to do, my work is good, I enjoy it, I could do without it, but enjoy it nonetheless, its the management that bothers me and the constant justifying your every action, well undermaned and will be a massive hinderance on the other bloke if I leave..........mmmmmm, decisions, decisions

P.S. I get paid enough to loose 40k a year and live comfortably, but I wont pay my house of in the next 6 years if thats the case

Wrong in my case. I had to resign my TAFE teaching job otherwise QSuper (Queensland Government Superannuation) would not pay me any sickness insurance. I had $49,000 cover that I would be paid if I resigned but only if I resigned for sickness reasons.

They were paying me income protection but as soon as they received two doctor's reports that showed my condition as terminal they stopped income protection. This left me with $0 income, try and live on $0 while paying medical expenses as well a mortgage & family expenses.

Also CentreLink would not pay me sickness benefits due to me having too much $ value in assets. I am a 20% benefactor in an estate but we cannot sell the farm as no one wants a deserted dairy farm.

The medical profession has deemed me to never to be able to work again in the foreseeable future so CentreLink will give me a disability pension only, no newstart as they consider me unemployable.

Situations like mine are not as easy as one thinks and can happen to anyone at anytime.

    Food for thought?
