Mate, I'm no plumber... but our gas external hotwater heater has a pressure regulator on the copper feed into the tank... ours has a knob to control it.
You got kids that might have fiddled?
or may the regulator just crapped itself..

An odd question for AULRO I know but I've read odder here
The cold water pressure in the house is fine but the hot water is is about 1/3rd of the cold water pressure.
It has only been like this for the last month or so and before that it was fine. We have one of those gas water heaters that lives outside.
Any ideas or time to call a plumber??

How old is the unit?
Do you have hard water?
Can you undo the cold water inlet?
If you turn the "In" (cold) water tap/valve off, then undo from the hot water cly, replace with a cap (so not to loose water from cly, but may have a one way valve), then turn tap slowly on to see how pressure you are getting into the cly......may not be the cly at all.....Its been a long time since I played with this stuff, so I will have a think.....
But to be honest most of the time it isnt worth stuffing around with them, so a new unit might be on the cards.....thats of course unless its under two years old.

Dont know about WA but in Victoria plumbing is a licensed trade and it is illegal for anyone to do any plumbing unless they are licensed. That does not stop many people though and places like Bunnings dont care who they sell stuff to as long as they make their profit.
If I was you I would check the inlet pressure of the water to the unit then call a plumber if anything else is required. My work involves quite alot of insurance work and if anything fails and causes damage to your house after you have done the work then the insurance company may refuse the claim as you were not qualified (licensed and insured)to do the work.

As said above, dont risk it. Plumbing is a licensed trade, and for a good reason. If you stuff something then it will end in tears. Trust me, its time to call a profesinal.
Cheers Steve
We had a similar problem with out outside gas hot water, turned out the water tap to the hot water system was turned off a tiny bot. Closed it off more, and then opened it right up again, and no problems since.

I'll have a look for taps and stuff tonight.
I would feel quite happy to replace water pipes as I have done this several times in the UK with both solder and comp. fittings but anyting to do with gas for me it's hands off.
Hard water ermm I dunno, I do know that it leaves white marks when it dries out does that mean it's hard? Or did you mean is it packing some sort of offensive weapon?
