free plug - hope its okay with everyone

I got a bit stuck in Sydney last week. Run off my feet and didn't have time catch up with a few aulrovians...

The Disco obviously didn't like sitting in traffic. How do you Sydneysiders put up with that? I was doing Balgowlah to Silverwater in a very quick 75 minutes, geez.........what's that? about 30ks.....

Anyhow, after along day on the road shooting a tv commercial for Opposite Lock, the owner of the Brookvale store organised a nearby Land Rover expert to try and sort out my woes...

40 minutes on the plug-in-to-Disco computer and a few adjustments, and my Disco was working; it was, apparently; running lean!

Thank you Richard, of Ayers at Brookvale, for looking after me. Nice bloke and obviously knows about Landys...(and the price was right...)

I'll do a short trip report soon, on the highway (750kms and three brief top-ups) my fuel consumption (after fix)
    was 11.3 l / 100km. Howzat?

Prior to fix, running around Squidnee, it was 21 l...

    Cheers,

I did a search on the site and didnt find any matchs for this one, from what i can see the only thing Land Rover that remains is the headlights and indicators, very interesting tho,

Nope, I'm not pulling anyone's chain.

I sat on about 100km/h, where I could as the Pac Hwy is still a track in sooo many places....

My fuel-up measurement is simple - the tank overflows somewhere in the guts of the fuel line. So, I pour in the juice and when the bowser clicks off, I trickle in a bit more and wait for the drops...

I measure my consumption as kilometres to the litre and the run from Berowa to Coolongolook was 8.85 km/l. C'look to Kempsey was the same (ish) 8.81.
    Kempsey to Grafton was 8.86.
Grafton to home and then a top-up today was 8.82.
My figures are accurate. My driving was steady, the Disco was light and the night was cool.
No air con - no heater, windows up....boring drive.
On the way down (Bna - Syd) prior to the tune up - I thought 7.2 km/l was good....

But as I said, running around Syd, the lovely V8 sucked it in at 4.9 km / l....

Sitting in traffic, stop and go, sitting at lights, and the donk is a very big 12 volt generator....

What amazed me (apart from my fabulous consumption figures) was the number of big caravans being hauled by recent Prados.....
must be the tow truck of choice for the grey nomads.....

Yeah, thanks shorty, but that looks a bit light for Sydney traffic, might need an Abrams next time.....√
    The traffic is truly unbeeeeelevable...

It was running lean & returning 21 litres/100km.
    Now it's returning 11.3 litres/100km.

How white are your spark plugs now ?

I can't see the exhaust valves lasting too long with those sort of fuel figures.

Hey Quiggers, my neighbour is a video/doco maker/editor too. Ex SBS, ABC, originally from OS mainly does work for the studs around here now (obviously no work ATM) and the occasional bit of ABC stuff (if they have budget).

    Yeah, I'm with you, scouse.

There's some really bizarre things going on with this donk.

On the way down to Syd, I filled at Coolongolook and about ten ks later, I felt like I was way down on power.

Richard Ayers said the readings on the diagnostics computer were the weirdest he'd seen.

So something happened after C'look... but I don't know what is going on...

The return trip was a good run, after the tune, but it's gutless going up hills....

    Got me foxed.

    Cheers, GQ
