Anyone in Broome who can help?

My daughter is flying home tomorrow and the Disco is being shipped from Broome.

The transport co. won't allow anything to be left in the car so she has to toss out the brand new snatch strap and the spare wheel and the jack and the tools. It's all OH&S. Gaaahhhhh!

Anyone want to buy a cheap brand new snatch strap and shackes ? And 20 litre plastic diesel container and water container, etc.

What's the name and address of the independent LR workshop in Broome where she can drop the wheel off - someone might be able to use it.

The jack normally goes under the bonnet. The car has a second battery in that location so the jack is in the back strapped behind the cargo barrier.

I've told her to put the jack under the seat and jack it up to lock it into place (it's an ex-Toyata LC screw jack) and to stuff the bright blue snatch strap under the seat.

The wheel is the second spare so if anyone in Broome wants a free Disco 1 steel rim and tyre, it's theirs but it will have to be dropped off somewhere tomorrow. Ditto with the diesel jerrycan and water jerry, new fuel filter.etc..

I guess the cheap tools I bought will just have to be dumped or given away.

If it's a 5 seater wedge everything in a rear bin and plead ignorant/forgetful, otherwise, wedge as much as possible under the seat and do the same.

It doesn't have rear bins ubnfortunately.

I've told her to leave the spare radiator hoses in the back - the 300Tdi hose is a nightmare to pack - and the spare belts up under the bonnet near the screen, the new fuel filter in the glovebox, the tools under the rear seat if they'll fit.

I've also told her to just leave the spare wheel, jerrys, stove, etc., in Derby. She's leaving Derby at 8am tomorrow so she doesn't have much time.

Unfortunately, Khumhoo (John Schmidt) has left Derby so she can't give the stuff to him.

I wonder if it had drawers fitted if they would have been OK to fill with stuff?

if you paid to have the extra tie downs put in ratchet strap the spare down on them. Faiing that theres some surplus places that you can feed a ratchet strap through the body panels to secure them to the support struts inside the rear body work at the lights and then to the seat supports at the back of the rear seats..

Last time I had that hassle it was just an issure with "loose" items but once the tyre was secured to the rear deck they were happy with that.

at worse it means you have to undo a couple of ratchet straps then turf the tyre at best you get to keep the lot.

second to that if its a disco 1 its got a removable tank acess panel, unsrew that and with a drill put in a 13mm hole and using nuts and washers attach a short 13mm threaded rod that pokes through up the top, screw the panel back down and then with a bit of 5mm plate and another pair of nuts (double nutting so it cant come loose) secure the spare to the panel, lay the jack down and curl the strap along side it and it should fit under the tyre with no worries

No, there's no extra tiedowns. I would have strapped the wheel to the cargo barrier.

do one of those other ones with the threaded rod through the floor tricks...

If its got a cargo barrier thats easier get 2 lenghts of threaded rod an 8 nuts and large washers to suit (and a bag of zip ties)

first up stand the tyre up against the cargo barrier with the jack inside mark the 2 holes in the barrier that best line up with the stud holes on either side of the jack.

drop the lot thread a nut and big washer on one end of each rod push that through from the cabin side of the barrier. in the boot space thread the next pair of nuts and washers on to secure them there (not too tight yet) position the jack and tyre as previously and then put another pair of washers and nuts on the rods to secure the tyre to the barrier.zip tie the jack to the rod and then neatly fold and zip tie the strap to the barrier or if you have small enough hands with it curled up put it in side the wheel and zip tie it to the barrier. Back inside the cabin side tighten the 2 nuts up to fully clamp the barrier. back to the cargo side and now tighten up the 2 nuts on the wheel tightly and then double nut it.

same principal as the fuel tank cover idea but vertical and stronger.

Ron, if you haven't had any luck, drop the gear off at 35 DeMarchi Road, Cable Beach. Danny (BroomeDefender) will be pleased to help. Just saw the post.
