    Disco II Tailagate

    Does anyone know if it is possible to lock the level that holds the tailgate open on a Dsico II. I'm getting a bit sore in the back of the legs from it slamming shut on them when it's windy!

    I know the Prado has a lock out mechanism and was hoping my DII had one aswell.

    I don't have any problems with my rear door, it seems to stay in place in windy conditions.

    Mine has 2 stages of opening, halfway the fully open and locks into place.

    Your locking bit at the bottom of the door may be worn or the pins are worn.

    With the weight of the spare tyre it is difficult to get the door to stay open when parked on a slope toward the passenger side. Even when parked on the street ours wants to shut and the whack on the back is very annoying to say the least.

    I can't understand why others don't have the same issue.

    Our previous Defender was even worse and I resorted to tying the door open just to load and unload the beast.

    Another trick is to park with the passenger wheels on the footpath while loading and unloading.

    Yeah, my door is buggered and falls on my legs all the time.........does my head in when having to open it on slopes
    '99 Manual TD5 D2.......heap of money spent on it and it has ended

    I use a variation on the wheels on footpath trick, park with the RH side of the car leaning downhill when in the bush and the door stays open. I am very careful as I reckon if it closed in the wind it could take one of the kids heads off if they were getting a snack out of the drawers. The other thing I can do is open the drawer closest to the door and wedge the door against it.
