When I was younger (a lot) I did a trip from Perth, Meeka, up thru Tom Price and back down via Headland. If I remember rightly - I spent most of the time sitting in the back watching things go by (slowily).

In 1962 I drove my Series 1 from about 100 miles out of Aramac to Sydney non stop - took about 24hours.
In 1966 I drove (with a codriver) my 2a diesel non stop from about 150 miles East of Finke to Sydney. Took about 48hours from memory. Not sure you call either of them a day trip.

More recently I drove the 2a from home to Penrith - about 400km, but including over the mountains, done easily in the day. I stopped overnight at Mudgee on the way back, but then I didn't leave Penrith until about 4pm.

Brisbane to Bedourie via Longreach with a Series III sold to Diamantina Shire Council. Via Longreach to pick up Silvie O'Connor, the Longreach dealer whose sale it officially was.
