Angry Go on ... sit back, grab a drink, relax... if you can!

... you're a sensible type and enjoy a responsible drink. Hell I'd only have a couple of beers a week and maybe a nip of scotch.

As of last Sunday this is what we now face...

    http://www.facsia.gov.au/nter/docs/a..._factsheet.pdf

Can't go out bush and have BBQ and a few drinks, can't have a relaxing day on the side of a river. Can't drive out to the Barrossa and come pack with a few cartons of wine for the year.

...and as for the alcoholics around town... nothing's changed. The poor police are not in a position to be everywhere and this is a remote region, so how the hell will it be enforced?

...the government's also removing the permit system for access to Aboriginal Land, that will just make it easier for those wanting to break the law and bring stuff in when they shouldn't.

I'm not saying that something didn't need to happen, but frankly it feels like the moral minority is trying to enforce unworkable constraints on a lot of people without understanding where we live.

    Anyway, rant over.

    See Shorty sigh.

Dumb as "dog do" public servants, with a knee-jerk reaction to the vocal minority.

    An enforced mediocrity?

I want to buy an island, and a REALLY big gun.

    "$1,100 for first offence"

That's an expensive stubbie... ..... even if it is a Darwin stubbie.

Seems a bit excessive... I know there is a problem...but there has to be a more balanced answer than that...

I think that its a positive move to help protect the aboriginal children. Its not a state wide issue, its something that has been brought in re aboriginal communities and lands for aboriginal people by the sounds of it, and something that many aboriginal communities have already instigated in other parts of australia. I recall reading at the top of the CREB track this very admiral sign:

Its hard to read, but basically they want to set a good example so their youth can be all they can be.

You can still fish on your own rivers and sink a few quiet ones, and you can still head down to Barossa and stock up. You just cant do it on land that is owned by the aboriginals to help protect their kiddies. It's not perfect and probably nobody doubts that but its better than doing nothing isn't it, and the cause is more worthwhile than a few drinks.

(and, yes the landowners gave us permission to be in there)
    Cheers
    Slunnie

All a knee jerk reaction. I am for limiting access in areas of abuse, but stopping responsible people from passing through with some alcohol is just stupid and probablly not enforceable. Even stupider is the half bottle of wine theory.
As from this point I no longer recognise aboriginal land, so that law can not apply to me.

Don't get me wrong Slunnie.... I agree something has to be done...and banning booze does make sense..

It just seems that a very tight limit rather than total ban would seem more balanced..... If I had 6 stubbies or a bottle of wine for the missus in the esky in the camper... with the rest of the families food on a 7 day trip.... I'm not about to cause any harm to anyone am I?..

Better to do something than nothing.....but maybe some more balance would be even better...

Funny, to get the stuff onto tradional land you would have to buy it, where , from a pub, or bottlo.
Another ridiculous piece of pseudo legislation.

I guess the aboriginal drinking problems have stemmed from the publicans and licencees selling them copious quantities of grog.
Now everyone is viewed as a transporter/seller for nefarious purposes.
Beauracracy gone mad,a sort of mini prohibition.
Bring on Elliot ness and the Untouchables.

geez guys all of you should actually read the attached document... it's against the law to transport more than 1350mls of pure alcohol, equivalent to 2 bottles of spirits or 3 slabs of beer... and illeagal to drink any at all in prescribed areas... geez if it helps 1000'2 of kids change their future, aint it worth it?
