make sure if its an auto that hes not planning on towing with it. It might just be that dad scored a lemon but hes been through 2 autoboxes and he does a heap of light (750kg or less) towing with his. First box change out he was told to keep it out of top gear when towing as the overdrives not up for it and killed the second box within a year and no hes not a hoon.... hes stopped towing with it now and is looking for a replacement vehicle that has a better driving position, firmer seats and a better towing capability...

Know anyone in the perth area thats selling a Deefer. He doesnt want to wait for a new ford one.

My advice and experience is don't, based on my experiences with my Wifes VT wagon.

So far at 180000k's ( purchased at 160000 )
Had to renew the following:
radiator
Turn/hi beam switch cluster
cracked cylinder head ( now hard to get)
powersteering pump
starter
oil cooler
seat belt jammed
constant airbag warning ( been to dealer several times)
radiator fan coming on flatening battery
interior plastic trim falling off
heater tap fell apart
Service warning read out won't reset.

Problems still to fix:
Cracked exhaust manifold
Leaking heater core ( a horrible smell in cabin ) The entire dash has to be removed and aircon removed ( will cost over $2500 )
Gearbox warning light coming on after short drive.
Airbag warning again

What a pile of *rap.

DON"T BUY IT

only probs with our poc dunnydoor,is the internal PLASTIC trim breaks easily and the independent rear sus-pension,i put the gap there because that is what it is,SUS,if running standard 15 inch rims,not too much of a prob ,but as soon as you go larger and wider then all sorts of tyre wear probs arise,the bigger and wider you go so escalates the tyre wear(and expense)we run 16 inch rims on ours with toyo tyre sourced at $140 eachbetter than the local stealer in Boonah who wants $170 -180 for same tyre,however if running 17-18's,prepare for some serious hip pocket surgery,inside will be down to the wire before the nipples are worn off the outside edge,found this out the hard painful way whilst doing a visual/physical check ,wire splinters really hurt

For encumberances etc you would need to do a REVs check, google it for one in your state,
