Drink driving is a horrible crime against the innocent and the culprits that kill people should be jailed for a long time but it is not what I would consider a hoorendous crime that deserves the death sentence, but I can understand families of the victims wanting it.

I think the death penalty works great, in a black and white world. Sadly ours aint one of those.

That's pretty much where I stood until my brother...well, yeah anyways. I suppose it's probably not suited to the discussion, but how long, is long enough? I dont think he's gonna get any more sorry.

There are always two sides and two families affected in all cases. I feel sorry for the offenders families to as they cop a lot of the flack. But hey not for the offender, they make the choice to get behind the wheel after drinking. Its a real hard one, but the death penalty would not be warranted in most cases (maybe repeat offenders that kill some one??). Without knowing your brothers circumstance it is too harsh to comment here. Hope you are copping OK.
I think for drink driving causing death over 0.08 it should be a minimum of 10 years, but that is just my personal view, but remember the other person has lost their life completely. Having said that id someone gets in a car with a drunk driver and then gets killed in an accident involving this driver then they are at fault as well.
Murder without extenuating circumstances should be a minimum of 25 years. Callous or sadistic murder death sentence.

I read in the paper yesterday that it costs around $217 per prisoner per day to house them. With 4333 prisoners, that's over $900,000 per day in victoria alone! That's before you add in the ridiculous lawsuits they come up with.

Well I'm not sure on the numbers. My bro's case is a long ways from over. He made a mistake and he'll pay the consequences. Doesn't make it easy, but it's a lot harder on my parents. Sorta pulls the family apart. I imagine it's a lot harder on her parents though, and we are just lucky that they aren't the ones pushing the charges.

I have to admit, at first I really did want to kill him. It's not at all fair on my parents and for the few days we spent at the hospital I couldn't stand looking at my dad's face. But that's history. I imagine you're not far off (on the 10 year sentence thing). Roughly speaking, that's what I've psyched myself up for.

everyone else has theres and the arguement will never end but sustaining a Murderer, Rapist,Paedophile in jail is a waste of tax payers money
Some of these mongrels get out and do it again so wheres the bloody sense in reinstating these wasted vesels of human form back into society
Most of us never enter the thought of taking another life or destroying one for the rest of theres
But there are people out there that do and some even take pleasure in doing so so wheres the justice for those that have family members taken from them
Wheres the relent in there pain
Where does the ongoing torment for the victims of rape end
How do you take away their pain ?

I agree 100% maybe we should make a market for it as alleged by the all of the Chinese government where death row people organs are sold

but imagine haven the kidney of child molester in your body yuck

juries are more likely to acquit if they think their verdict will sent the offender to chair.

DNA is great for putting a person at a crime scene (either at the time of the offence, sometime previously or sometime after). Proving someone is at a crime scene is only part way there to proving they were involved.
