NO ONE is on remand for two years before trial, it just doesn't happen here. Refusing bail is only granted to ensure the peanut turns up to court and as far as being 'stitched up' with DNA evidence, thats from the TV because securing DNA evidence is a very small part of an investigation. It can be compelling but if not much else supports it or it doesn't support the other evidence, it'll sink that line of enquiry.

Actually I have got a very idea as I have worked in maximum security for years.I do personally know of a bloke who had 2 high end jewlery shops and a restraunt who got dragged into conspiracy to import by phone taps because some machinery he ordered was in the same shipment as the drugs. After 16months the dpp admitted they had nothing on him and told him if he'd sign paperwork to say he wouldn't sue they would let him out if not they would drag it out to trial and he woud still not get anything. He was married with 2 kids and a stunner of a wife, he was butt ugly and his bussiness was going broke. What would you do? he signed. Most serious cases ie. capital cases ,supply com quantity do take 2+ years to get from being locked up to getting sentenced.

One more thing a lot of people only get bail because the jails are full to capacity some crims have to sit in police cells for a couple of days because there are no cells in jails vacant. That IS why a lot of crooks get parole as well. Jails are definately a growth industry.People kill to get inside.

Thats a bit different to your comment on getting stitched up.
I worked on the other end for years locking them up. It doesn;t happen!
What you described is a federal brief, either customs or afp.
Unless you read the full brief of evidence I find it hard to believe someone would sign off on a non prosecution, you can't make the charges go away, and once listed at court those records too have to be dealt with, usually by offering no evidence with explanation.
Ran it by a mate of mine who is a barrister , who called yesterday, he laughed, didn;t believe it, reckoned it wouldn;t happen. You don;t sign away no suing rights, where charges have been preferred.
