Smile Water tank under a 3

I floated this question once before but dont think an answer was offered, today I was sorting the junk in the back of the landy and I came across the big plastic caravan water tank I have earmarked to go in it or under it, has anyone tried this or done it, the tank is retangular and looks made for the job, I havent had a measure up underneath if I didnt have the rear fuel tank it would slot up in there nicely, probably somewhere else it can go

I am getting hold of a second 109 2A rear tub and hardtop I want to make into a trailer with the camping accomadation, should I use an original chassis set up with springs and a axle with 16 in wheels and fit a draw bar to the chassis rails or make a whole new c channel frame from scratch,

been there... but not with a caravan tank.

dads rover (my first) had a large fuel tank directly behind the front seat back in the well area.

I made up some 100mm poly pipe to go behind that and spaced it back to leave just enough room for the spare and recovery gear and still allow the tailgate to close.

I just bought a 52Lt tank from a caravan mob to fit in the rear passenger footwell. Was looking at getting a stainless one made by the sheeties we use at work, but didn't want it permanently. For pump, hoses, valve etc delivered for $210 can't beat that.

    cheers

    1. The S2a I owned in the sixties had a water tank underneath, although it was a tray top so there was plenty of room. For other models, the exhaust usually wastes a lot of space, but something can probably be done.

    2. The trailer conversion using a Series 109 tub I am looking at myself. I intend to fit it with a second "rear" end, so that it has a front "tailgate" that drops down onto the towbar for long loads - I do not intend to fit a hardtop, but a removeable canvas top.

Having thought carefully about this, I would not use an original chassis, but would use a fabricated one, probably box section, with cross members front, rear and at the spring hangers. Not sure at present whether to use the original springs (probably 88, as I would not be looking at anything close to the 109's axle loading), but I would intend to use a tubular axle with Series stub axles and hubs.

If you have a rear mounted fuel tank why not mount the water under the drivers seat like where the fuel tank is on the hardtops and utes. Or are you modifying the box to move the seat due to your size?

Well Dobbo I plan to fit Std tanks up under the box on both sides to give me long range capability, once I revert back to the original seats I could I guess tuck the tank up behind the bulkhead and box it so it doesnt look messy, my size is decreasing every day, am on some new metphormin tabs which is really helping the wieght drop off , I have to see a specialist shortly about a gastro band, paying for it is a different matter as it cant be done on medicare, but mum and dad said they would sort it and just take it out my share of the will so that will help, this time next year I fully intend to be 100 kilo lighter, and by the middle of that year I should be back into fighting shape.

It was an honest question, I have heard of a similar modification being made before so I was presuming you had also heard of it and contemplated the mod to the box.

Believe I had considered modding the box to drop it by a few inches but a sports steering wheel solved the problem , I dont want to do something I cant undo later, its still a pig to get into as its so high but some decent side steps will solve that drama, my cuerrnet box has been modified as its been encased in angle and has a dirty great steel safe mounted under the centre seat plate, I need to scratch my head abit and rework it all,
