Next G coverage Broome to Perth

Not that great. Once you leave Broome you get bugger all to Port Hedland. Once you leave Port Hedland you get not a lot until Roebourne and Karratha. Once you leave Karratha you get nothing until Canarvon. Once you leave Canarvon you get nothing until the Overlander Roadhouse at the turn off to Shark Bay and then not much until Northampton north of Geraldton. After Geraldton it is a lot better.

Then Telstra says your handset has a lot to do with your reception nominating the LG TU550 as the unit of choice for "Rural" areas. Plus you need an external antenna to get good reception.

I am sure it will improve with time but I am keeping my CDMA for travelling until they turn it off in January 2008.

    Yet where I am...

GSM = Useless even in town
CDMA useless 15km from town till Lincoln

Next G - Works everywhere I've driven around here.

The map coverage looks better over your way

I think the fires on the Eyre Peninsula a couple of years back and the collapse of the radio network for the emergency services would probably contribute to the good coverage of next G that you are expeiencing on the Eyre Peninsula.

As for the North West of WA it is still improving and will hopefully be a lot better by next January. Karratha and surrounds are pretty good but there is a big hole until Canarvon and after Carnarvon. Onslow and Exmouth have coverage.

    Regards,

I have that hand set and full in car kit that was supplied by Telstra and its not hald the phone my old cdma was. They even give me $100 credit on my old cdma because the next g wasnt up to the job. Just got home from Perth and my wife had cdma coverage where I had none.
Justing sussing info for my planned trip next year.
    Thanks to all

total crap coverage, dont belive Helen Coonan because it aint there.
Even the state gov departments are hanging onto the old CDMA phones for as long as they can because in reality as soon as you leave the outskirts of Midwest/Murch towns there is no coverage to be had.

pretty hit and miss out of Karratha, our site is nearish the fortesque river mouth, some days we have reception other days a sms is all you can do if youre lucky, very unreliable at least works sat phones keep us in touch, been informed that work will be putting in a super dooper tower to ensure constant coverage, but like most things here we believe nothing we hear and only half of what we see.

Down here in Esperance is it very patchy...even with a car kit and the LG handset.
The coverage is one thing, but the network seems to have heaps of trouble too! Quite often I cant get a signal in the office, or if I do have a signal, the network has sh*t itself and wont allow calls at all.
I sure do miss my old CDMA.
I think its a bit like OPTUS, only pay half as much but only hear every 2nd word!!!!
