Yup they're everywhere, but how many have checked the legislation? Not many, I bet... which is why I called Qld Transport before fitting mine...

The farmers I can understand, they would spend a lot of time on their own property and wouldn't worry too much about fitting extra lights on the roof for driving around said property - but the people in towns would have seen the farmers and thought they looked "cool" and gone from there.. bet not many of them bothered to check the legality of it.

Interesting the Qld Transport guidelines read as follows...

"Two additional pairs of driving lamps may be fitted to a motor vehicle."

Which presumably means if you already have 1 pair of driving lamps fitted as standard on your vehicle, then you can fit an addition FOUR lamps making a total of SIX + the regular high-beam.

With no restriction on the bulb wattage, that is enough to melt the bitumen!

As for the top of the bullbar thing, the QLD ADRs suggest you must be able to see a line on the road 11m (?) in front of the vehicle. So even if you can see the lights for the drivers seat, if you can still see over them its fine.

EDIT: They also say that anything protruding over the bonnet height must have a vertical raised edge of maximum 50mm (off the top of my head).

How tall are you then? Want to know so I can inform Grizzly:D

I admit I haven't read the regs, but it used to be illegal to use roof mounted lights on the road.

I don't get the need to connect them in series.
If you put 4 lights up there ( and that looks good on a fenda ) You would need 3volt lamps. The wiring would have to be welding flex.
Or do they mean that they must opperate in series with the high beam? As opposed to being connected in series?

Qld. Transport "Modifications" brochure says " Driving lights/brackets must not protrude forward from the front face of any bumper or above the top of any bull bar". It has an illustration showing very clearly what is not approved. As to the roof mounted lights, try three or four Qld. Transport officials and you will get that many answers. I know, I have.

Probably the second option, as they cannot operate unless the high beam is operating...

AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA i meant i was guessing the figure, it would be the same test as for bonnet scoops ,superchargers etc.
