    In regards to the engine flywheel and braking the engine, the 202 runs a very light flywheel, compare both the holden and the Landy 2.25 and theres a big difference in wieght, as to the technical side of the braking bit theres enuff stuff written about flywheel problems to make me not want to have them, best to fix it properly, and I guess we wont be thermo wrapping then if its troublesome. Didnt think of marine carpet they dont mind being wet

    You know that the 202 wasn't as good as the 186 in Land Rovers don't you? It all has to do with the cam, in the 1960's most transmissions were 3 speed manual so the cam was designed around torque at lower revs. By the time of the 202 a large proportion of vehicles had auto transmissions where the torque converter dealt with low speed work and the cam was re-designed to have the torque at higher revs.

    Addit. Try to find a sump off a HT Holden, this had the large part of the sump in the centre of the engine so is better for both climbing and hill decent. A must is an oil cooler. The big problem with Holdens is the lack of oil volume, and once the oil gets hot nothing can bring the temp down. An oil cooler does two things, provides an external source of heat exchange and provides additional oil volume

    My 202 is a later 3.3 red from a bombadore, its been done up for unleaded and to produce torque, the cam aint standard by any stretch, the 202 was created by moving the the position of the gudgeon pin this is how they did the stroke so the old 202s had a problem of popping tops of pistons , but these days with rebuilders they use good pistons and most of these old problems are gone, 202s also gave problems if over worked when hot, so good cooling and maintenance is needed, any motor should get this really. At the time I was hunting I was after a 186 S motor but this 202 fell in my lap for free so I am happy to run it, its got a new carby and lotsa new accessories and electronic ignition, we can only see how it goes, if it suffers or causes problem we will pull it and try again with something else, hopefully it will do whats required of it.
