Thread: Why is it so ?

    Why is it so ?

We wear a pair of shoes.
    We wear a shirt.
We wear a pair of trousers ?
No we dont, or at least I dont.
We dont wear a pair of shirts !
If you are British you probably wear pyjamas under
your trousers, so it could be said that you wear a pair of trousers.
Where did this confusing term originate ?
The only pair of long pants that I own, is a pair of
    Mustang jeans.
No I dont, I only own one pair of Mustang jeans !
I only own five pair of shorts in various stages of tatter.
I could count the number of shorts on the fingers of one hand, which adds up to five pair ?
Thank Gawd I only own one pair of boots, no lace up shoes. No suits, sports clothes or button up shirts.
With all of those pair of pants, the wardrobe would be over flowing.
I dont own or wear pyjamas, so I dont own a pair of
    those pants.
Lets not get into the question of underdacks.
    Jeez its confusing.

Just as confusing as ordering a sandwich.

Is it one slice of bread or two?

I received two pair of undies for my birthday, hang on, I counted them and there are four in the packet ...... aaaaaauuuuuuuuggggghhhhhhh .

    Now I'm really confused!

    If it helps at all.

SBS is showing a series on the history of the English language that is bloody fascinating.
Episode 3 is showing this week.

Very well then, I own five pair of short pant.

Pantaloon or pantalon, from the French, the addition of the "s" to pluralise, would be the correct form.

Or not, these days. It would seem.

hiline, I'm only confused when it comes to what we
    fellows wear.
When it comes to the ladies, my mind is made up,
skin is most definately the best dress material and a pair of em is even nicer.
    Cheers.

If it helps at all, I get a short pant every time I walk more than I should .
