    Its a sad day.

Ok, I am now in pretty bad debt after being of work for 3months and not being able to work properly for another 2-3months.
    So I have 2 options
Take out a big loan and pay it back over MANY years
    or
    Sell the Disco
Now once everything is fixed in the disco what do people think it is worth???
Its a 2002 Disco2 TD5 185,000 on the clock. With Bullbar, CD and other 4wd extras I can leave in it.

Hey Mate, bummer about the situation, can't say how much the Disco would be worth, not my area of expertise ( perhaps look at Redbook). In terms of taking out bigger debt or selling..........simple..........sell. You can always buy again when the situation is right, not easy, trust me I know, but better to put up the hatches now and batten down than to go the other direction. Good luck with it all,

    Regards

    Yup,
Sorry to see anyone in that possy, better to sell while you have some degree of control.
I have been looking at that model as I will want to upgrade the missus Disco at some point (not now- sorry) and the dealers sell them for around $22- $25,000.
They are selling too as there are new ads all the time, especially as its a TD5.

Yep, if you have other transport...... then, sorry. It's just a machine at the end of the day, and I would assume that financially it would make a lot better sence to sell it. This said, I couldn't be further from being a financial advisor.
    Cheers

It depends on how big a dent in the debt it will make and how much of a dent not having it will make in your morale.

Unfortunately these things are sent to try us and you have to remain positive and keep moving forward..The Disco is only a car and there will be others in the future...So don't be sad. " Excreta eventuarta"

    Sell it.

Otherwise later on when you do decide to sell it anyway the debt will be greater and the Disco will be worth less.

I assume that from what you have said you wouldn't be able to afford to use it or pay for 'Td5 upkeep' anyway.

Hey mate,i went through this about 2 years ago due to 9 months off work injured.I sold most of my vehicles and toys but in the end it was worth it to be dept free, its takin a long time to get back on track but that feeling of no dept is the best feeling it takes so much presure off you Hope it all works out good luck.

I've no experience whatsoever, but I reckon sell it.
In general, cars depreciate whilst debts accumulate.

You got yourself a Series III, so you're already heading down the right track!

Whats this special " TD5 Upkeep " I keep on reading about (usually from 300tdi or V8 owners)

I feed mine Fuel, and oil every 5000k

Thats all ? ... people like you keep on with your online verbal diarrhea on about the td5 being a death / money pit ...

I do 700-1000km a week in mine, so I class it has a high use Defender, it sits in traffic all day, and has 400-500kg of gear in the back all the time, its at 180,000 and I have put 47k on it in around 12 months ... 2 Australia Crossings, and 2 trips to cairns ...!!

Cost me nothing but a new sump (I threaded mine) and some new brake disks.

Everyone here complains about everyone thinking Landrovers are money pits / break down ... NO WONDER when / if someone comes here and all they read is BS like the crap above.

sigh. ... I just want to make sure I am not missing out of a LR experience and getting the full fun out of my td5, and if others are getting this Upkeep crap I want some tooo!!!
